It just occurred to me that I haven’t seen a teriyaki burger since I left L.A.
I may have to see if I can find one in West Seattle tomorrow.

I love me a good teriyaki chicken or burger, with grilled pineapple. Was it a '90’s thing that went by the wayside? Now that you mentioned it, I don’t think I have seen one on a menu outside Re-ed Robinnn. Yummmm. in a long long time.
In the late '70s/early '80s, I used to consume mass quantities of teriyaki chicken at our local Beefsteak Charlie’s. Just. The. Best.
I went to a place that had teriyaki burgers, but they didn’t have pineapple. So I had beef teriyaki, rice, and kimchee instead. I can always make a teriburger at home. Weird that I haven’t seen them around, though.
Red Robin still does one, right?
I’m not fond of the teriyaki burger, almost always too sweet and 80% of the time I have to pick out a disgusting slice of pineapple out of it (I like pineapple but it is one of those foods best eaten by itself and never eaten warm).
But almost every teriyaki burger I’ve ever eaten would have been in the Seattle area in the 90s (and I’ve seen them all over since living in other west coast cities). It feels like I’ve been ignoring them on menus ever since but maybe it really was mostly a '90s thing.
Yes, they do. A pretty good one, in fact.
In its regular menu, McDonald’s Japan sells Teriyaki McBurgers (YouTube Video) with a pork-based patty (I think it may be the same as the breakfast sausage) covered with a very sweet teriyaki sauce, with mayonnaise and lettuce. I believe it’s one of the most popular offerings.
Dunno about Teriyaki Burgers but the Smokey Hot Chicken baguette sandwiches at the Baguette Box on First Hill are pretty good. (Not hot though.)
My all time favorite style of burger. I love the ones from Habit Burger. It’s a small chain started in Santa Barbara. They just opened two here in Napa over the last couple years.
There’s also a tiny burger/ BBQ place here that does a great one, except they don’t do the pineapple. I go with mushrooms on theirs.
Now I’m all hungry…
I think there might be a place in LA, but I haven’t been there yet.
I save my teriyaki burger indulgences for when I fly home to Hawaii. There’s a chain called Teddy’s Bigger Burgers that makes great teri burgers – no pineapple is standard, but you can order it as a topping. I get mine with cheese only. I understand the McDonald’ses there also brought back the McTeri, a beef burger, which is decent.
Back in the '90s, Orange Julius had teri cheeseburgers on the menu, and they were delicious. I miss those.
Jesus God. A teriyaki burger with mayo AND lettuce? Why would they ruin a teri burger with either one of those things?
The Japanese invented teriyaki. I think they’re qualified to decide whether any other ingredients “ruin” it.
The Japanese like mayonnaise, a lot. The most popular indigenous brand is practically an archetype. And as to lettuce, well, they use green leaf veggies as garnish/side for other “pork with sweet brown sauce” classics which are AWESOME, so, yeah, I think “ruined” is a bit overblown (i.e., completely misguided).
I mean, sure, you’re entitled to not like the idea, but that doesn’t make it ruined. Just not to your tastes. But you knew that. I’m obviously arguing against the Café Society trope of “WHAT I DON’T LIKE IS AN ABOMINATION”.
