I’m so pleased. If Owens had won, it would have thrown the NFL into chaos.
Now for why this is in IMHO. If you could choose one NFL player, past or present and in their prime, to lay a hit on Owens…who would you choose?
Jack Tatum of the Raiders comes to mind. Or Lawrence Taylor.
I really don’t like Terrell Owens. So, part of me is glad to see him get some comeuppance.
But at the same time, I can’t blame the guy for being unhappyt about his financial situation. Major league baseball players have waaaay too much power to suit me, but pro football players don’t have nearly enough. I really don’t blame TErrell for wanting more money, and for trying to use his limited leverage (after his brave performance in the Super Bowl) to get a raise.
Business is business, and I wouldn’t have blamed the man in the least for fighting to get a better deal. NFL contracts aren’t guaranteed, after all, and the Eagles wouldn’t have hesitated to cut him immediately (and relieve themselves of their financial obligations to T.O.) in a second, if they wabted to, so it doesn’t bother me that a player was “disloyal” to his team, or that he wasn’t going to “honor his contract.”
If only he hadn’t gone out of his way to badmouth teammates (not just McNabb- T.O. has coldly dissed teammates for years) and to insult the organization. Once he did that, he couldn’t be forgiven or taken back onto the team.
I just can’t stick to one player, but keeping in the spirit of the OP, Bill Bergey stands him up, Wes Hopkins comes in like a missle at his gut, then after the whistle blows, Andre Waters takes him out at the knees… oh, and then Buddy Ryan bitch slaps him on the sidelines.
I bet TO’s next contract is close to the league minimum for salary with some huge incentives built in.
It would be interesting if the Eagles put him up for trade. Who’d get first choice right now…Houston or San Fran? Green Bay next? I wonder what those fans would say, take him or pass?
If Philly flat cut him, would he be an outright free agent?
If Philly cut him he goes out on the waiver wire so the worst team in the league (Houston) would have first shot. Then you would have the multitude of 2-8 teams that would get a chance to claim him.
Hard to say who will want him next year. Maybe Atlanta or San Diego. But I don’t know where they are cap-wise so I am really just talking out my ass.
It’s nice to see a loudmouth beaten. Next I’d wish that the 76ers smack that little thug Alan Iverson. Let professional sports be inhabited only by gentlemen.
