Hello,
I’m new here, but I just wanted to see how the coding works. Looks pretty straightforward.
What’s the deal with this -> ;j, though? Also, is it bad form to post a General Question without introducing myself?
Hello,
I’m new here, but I just wanted to see how the coding works. Looks pretty straightforward.
What’s the deal with this -> ;j, though? Also, is it bad form to post a General Question without introducing myself?
That’s Wally. There is no explanation beyond that. Go figure.
No, jump right in.
You’re not allergic to goats are you?
No, that’s called a Happy Orthodox Jew. :wally is a Wally, so named for a guy (no longer with us) who called a putz a putz. It’s an insult, so don’t use it lightly.
Go right ahead and post a General Question. If it’s something that you could have found out for yourself in a few minutes using a search engine, people WILL point that out, with varying degrees of politeness. Also, the regulars have heard just about every smartass question there is, so don’t ask “Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?” and expect people to congratulate you on your cleverness. This is not Comedy Amateur Open Mike.
Introductions go in MPSIMS, if you want to introduce yourself. It’s not mandatory. Read the forum descriptions. Read the threads in the various forums. Enjoy yourself, but be mindful that others share this message board, too.
Welcome.

Um, yeah what she said. That’s what I get for “multi-tasking”.
I wally myself. :wally
Be warned, by the way, that some of our members have had traumatic experiences with your namesake. The rest, of course, haven’t had any experience with it at all. So that might be a slight obstacle you’ll have to overcome.
Thanks for the welcome! Since my userid represents a lot of trauma for many people, I’ll try and keep a low profile…
One other question: I only have access to a computer during my lunchbreak. I hope it’s not a problem if I’m responding somewhat sporadically. For instance, I started a General Questions thread yesterday and haven’t returned to it until today. Is that considered a “bump” or other prohibited activity?
Nah, plenty of other posters have erratic posting habits for one reason or another. It’s not unheard-of for someone to start a thread and not get back to it for days, or even a week or more. As long as you’re not bumping up threads more than a few months old, no one’s going to have a problem with it.
Nope – it’s considered polite to keep an eye on a thread you start, and saying “thanks” to those who have responded is considered good manners, not a bump. If no one has responded, you’re generally allowed one “bump” on a thread (usually after at least 24 hours) just for the sake of bumping it.
Welcome! Have fun!
twicks, one of the few who don’t care about SWHS one way or the other
You might want to watch out for the ones with erotic posting habits. Bit of a sticky wicket sometimes.
One problem…your username NEVER HAPPENED. Therefore, you must not be real.
But welcome anyway.
I’m testing something too.
Our patience?

Ugh, Feydeau, nose-coffee is one thing, but do you have any idea what nose-Diet Coke feels like?!
