To get the image to appear in your post:-

  • Don’t use the Hyperlink option. That will just create a link to the image.
  • Just paste the image’s url (which should end in .jpg (or whatever format it is))
    eg https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/muppet/images/b/b1/Zootfull.jpg
  • The url should be on its own line with no other text. (That’s why the above line doesn’t show the image, because it has the “eg” in front of it.)

My favorite Muppets were Statler and Waldorf: From the Balcony.

Testing pictures from smugmug

2025 Iron Butt Rally, Coralville, Iowa

Add #1 — That only gives the gallery link (album link).

Add #2 — Nichole Meuse, winner of the 2025 Iron Butt Rally; she’s the second female winner of the IBR (Wendy Crockett made history as the first in 2019)

Add #3 — That only gives the picture link

So far, nothing displays the picture, only a link to it.

@Bullitt
Right-click the image and select “copy image address”.

Thanks @pjd !

FYI - sometimes a ref to wiki produces a box like that with nice clickable header but mostly filled with computer gibberish, not the first paragraph of the article.

That’s a compatibility problem between Discourse and some versions of some wiki page templates. You didn’t cause that, and you can’t fix it.

How did you do that?

I’m on a Windows PC. I clicked your link. I right-clicked on the image and choose “Copy image link”. I then pasted that into the a reply box.

Discourse, when it has an url to an image ending in .jpg or .png, will automatically embed the image in the post.

My post looked exactly like this:

https://i.postimg.cc/LXRkbz0R/IMG-2410.png

I’ve added backquotes in this post to prevent Discourse from interpreting the url in this post.

It didn’t for me, hence the link instead of the pic. I’m using my iPhone, is that making the difference?

I had started to reply to @HeyHomie before @Pleonast snuck in.

Because when I entered his link, it went not to the pic, but to a hosting page. Despite looking correctly formed, that’s not what it did.

Which was evidence to me that Postimg.cc was actively trying to prevent hotlinking.

then I tried again and it worked as a hot-link as you’d expect and image was displayed inline. About then @Pleonast’s post showed up, proving the same thing.

Color me confused.

For @HeyHomie: I’m pretty sure it’s not you, but rather postimg.cc that is causing your problems.

The other possibility is there’s a space or other invisible character in front of the “h” in “https” or after the “g” in “png”.

Any time anyone is working on a phone, there are a lot of “helpful” features of copy/paste that are working against you.

Trying from iPhone. It’s harder to get the image url. The page has a share button, from which you can copy the image url. And then paste here:

Yes. Be sure to have only the url on a line by itself.

There it is. The key seems to be previewing first.
