T'giving Celeb Death Trifecta: Anita O'Day, Betty Comden, Phillippe Noiret

Yikes. From the AP:

Anita’s one of my favorite singers; one of a handful whose scatting doesn’t make me cringe. And Betty Comden, on *top *of all her other accomplishments, stepped in as Greta Garbo’s double when Sidney Lumet couldn’t take La Garbo into cameoing as herself in 1984’s Garbo Talks.

Three deaths - and I don’t recognise any of them.

Oh no! Comden and Green were one of the most amazing theater teams ever, and I’ve owned and listened to most of their work since I was a kid. I saw them perform live in a concert presentation of ON THE TOWN in 1998 and then saw Betty at Adolph’s memorial service a few years later. She came in, supported by two handsome Broadway stars, and got a standing ovation. Even then she was frail bit she was beaming and gave a wise and funny eulogy for her friend that had the place in tears and laughter one more time.

The lights will dim on Broadway for her tomorrow, and she’ll deserve it richly.

Gee, I probably should have included some brief, one-sentence description of their careers, maybe from the AP or something . . .

Ah, but if you’d done that, then Cunct’ would have had no excuse for threadshitting.

On the next episode of CSI, Grissom and the team discover that three seemingly unrelated Thanksgiving deaths are actually part of a chilling pumpkin pie conspiracy.

I’m sorry to hear about the death of Philippe Noiret, an excellent actor, IMHO. I particularly enjoyed his performance in the very funny and affecting *Les Ripoux * (1984), released in the U.S. as My New Partner.

One of my favorite Xmas CDS is Broadway Christmas. The first song is “Be a Santa” from Comden & Green’s “Subways are for Sleeping.”

Great songwriter. Broadway has lost another one

Betty Comden died? She was a great talent. A bit of trivia: the character Lily Marton in The Band Wagon (1953), played by Nanette Fabray, was based on Comden.

 I’ve never seen Il Postino so I didn’t know who that was, but I adore My New Partner! Thank you for pointing that out.

RIP Anita, Betty and Phillippe. (And Robert Altman)

At the end, it will be revealed that the murderer isThe Great Pumpkin!

Awww, I was in a bad mood last night and now I’m sorry for being so hard on him. Shoulda included a smilie, except I’m allergic to them.
