Þ,§, and other symbols

I just learned how to make some cool symbols while talking online. With the num lock down, hold alt and then a number sequence on the number pad. I got these so far:

alt 0222= Þ
alt 789= §
alt 4628= ¶
alt 1666= é
alt 657= æ
alt 658= Æ
alt 147= ô
alt 168= ¿
alt 123= {

I’m sure there are many more. Does anyone know all of them? Is there a source where I can get all of them? And, more importantly, how do you make ‘pi’? (I don’t want to know how to make pie, you smartasses.)

Hey, I wish * I * could make pie, Babar. And I ain’t no smartass. :slight_smile:

No, I have nothing against smartasses. I am one myself. But why don’t you post a topic for great pie recepies? I think that’s actually a great idea. If you don’t post a recepie thread, I will.

Hey, go right ahead!!! Thanks. :slight_smile:

Great! Always good to discover new things & share them with us who don’t yet know! Please disregard pompus put-downs! Thanks,…Carl

If you have windows 95/98, there’s a neat little thing in the accessories menu called “Character Map”.

Don’t knock it, Carl. I think it’s much harder to make pie than puzzle out some of those special symbols. (No trouble making them on as Mac, incidentally.)

That reminds me of the ASCII character numbering system. The fonts have several characters that cannot be typed directly by most keyboards. To use these you had to hold down the alt key and type in its number on the keypad.

You used to be able to get this info with the character map that came with Windows. However, my copy of Windows 98 doesn’t seem to include Character Map. If yours does, you can get all the number codes.

Carpe hoc!

Darn it, Sylence beat me to it. However, I checked my accessories (again), and my system simply does not have it. (Character map, that is.)

But back to the original topic (ain’t I a killjoy?) :wink:
I’d like to know how to make:
The Spanish n with the tilde
The other letters (besides e) with the acute accent (666) (I hope this comes out all right)
The letters with the grave accent
The other letters with the circumflex
The inverted Spanish exclamation point
The diaerisis/umlaut
The cedilla on French c or Polish a or e
Thanks very much.

Just a sec, Monty. I figured some of those out.

And the Character Mat, I got it! Now how the hell do I use it?

Monty, 164 and 165= ñ Ñ

Babar: If you’re using Windows98 (not sure about Windows95), press Cntrl + W simultaneously: it will take you to the Symbols window. You’ll be in seventh heaven!

Okay, here we go. Wright these down…

0216= Ø
0248= ø
0223= é
0156= œ
0137= ‰ ?
0205= Í
0147= “
0206= Î
0220= Ü
0208= Ð

and many more. you want them all?

Thanks, Omni, but that just close this window. But I did find my Character Map, and I am in heaven!

Oh, it works really good under Win95! The effect is little short of breathtaking.

Does anyone know how to make Russian (Cyrillic) symbols? I always thought the symbol ‘zhe’ was really cool. I also have one minor practical use.

Yeah, thos Cyrillic symbols would be cool. But I image you have to have a Russian computer to do all of them.
