(thank goodness, not Sandy) koufax

Because he underscores Streep’s point that mocking a reporter is much worse than rape.

This is some crazy third-hand, neighbor’s cousin twice removed, forth degree of crispy bacon, don’t-give-a-fuck by proxy logic here.

Makes perfect sense.

At least, that’s what Trump supporters are trying to suggest to people who aren’t smart enough to tell the difference between applauding a filmmaking award and applauding a statutory rape committed 25 years previously.

And it can be stated in 140 characters or less. So unless our soon to be President is afraid of invoking the subject of rape, Himself himself might mention it, too!

I think the applause was for film making, but I agree that she shouldn’t have applauded for a rapist. It’s a larger problem with Hollywood – a blind spot about their icons. But sometimes flawed people are right about other things, and in this case I think much of her criticism was entirely reasonable and correct.

Polanski wasn’t raping her. He does that all the time!

I suppose the response is slightly positive in the sense that Trump supporters are trying to cling to dignity. The alternative of “Yeah, Trump’s scum. We know. Who cares.” might not be much better as it would show they’ve decided civility is casually irrelevant.

Maybe that’ll be a major tell, when Trump supporters start to respond with “[shrug] Whatever.” instead of flimsy ad homimen counter-attacks. Maybe by then they’ll be too fatigued with trying to defend Trump to bother with the token efforts. Just speculating, of course, but if the signs are there by the end of this year, maybe careful optimism of Democrats retaking Congress will be in order.

Wait. There are shades of grey in child rape?

Ha! Predictable.

You think white working class voters live in a bubble? You think big city liberals live in a bubble? You ain’t seen NOTHING until you see the bubble that Hollywood lives in. Particularly the actors/actresses. The writers , directors, etc are super liberal in a lesbian dance theory sort of way but he actors and actresses are nucking futz. The industry makes them think they are important people because they are good at acting when in fact they are no more important or insightful that professional athletes, rock stars, Kim Kardashian or any other media celebrity.

You have to be careful - one could say “I don’t condone pussy-grabbing, golden showing, sucking Russia’s dick, but I do adore Making America Great Again, and I recognize trump as a President of stature.”

I hate Polankski. I hate Hollywood’s double standard and turning a blind eye to his offenses. I wouldn’t even be in the building if I were an actor and my fellow Hollywoodians gave him an award for anything. But then, I’m not in the business, so no one cares.

The phrase “love the sinner, hate the sin” comes to mind.

I was calling into question Clothy’s idiocy of trying to conflate an artist’s egregious misdeeds from forty years ago with MS’s perfectly valid speech.

Josh Bredin:

Doesn’t seem to bother Trump’s observant Jewish daughter and son-in-law.

It’s their job to not be bothered by it. A very high paying job.

Or billionaire mollesting reality star Bully. But what can you do.
