On an unrelated note, I think I’m going to avoid partisan blogs for a while. I think the inevitable circular arguing on this whole issue will get under my skin if I don’t.
But conservative commentators seem to have demonstrated a consistent belief that ACORN:
a) got the President elected;
b) was and is intimately tied with the President; and
c) is receiving lots and lots of public money.
Given those beliefs, their reaction is completely understandable.

They are mostly involved in voter registration. It is illegal to ask people who they are voting for, when you register them. That would not be partisan.
However most of the workers are paid very little and would not likely be republicans . Most of the big time bankers are repubs, would that make banks partisan?

It does not matter is a voter registration group is partisan. You do not know who a person will vote for. You just register them.
I did voter registration. You set up a table ,put up a sign and stack forms. At that point, you are no longer in control. Whoever walks up and chooses to fill out an app, may do so. You can not say you look republican, go away. you can refuse nobody. It is totally, 100 % non partisan. I signed up many repubs i am sure. I took solace in feeling that the more people who vote, the closer to a real peoples choice we get.
ACORN is non-partisan and apolitical. The righ wing media myth to the contrary stems from nothing more than the fact that they register low income people to vote. Because of changing demographics, the GOP is trying to suppress the registration of minority voters by villifying anyone who helps them as “partsian,” and insinuating that they are criminals. The anti-ACORN hysteria is just as stupid, just as irrational, just as asinine as the deather/birther bullshit, and its rooted in the same core fears.
