Thank you mods for lowering the volume of the troll wars.

Everytime I see a major banning shootout, I see people praise the mods.
But then I cringe as there are a couple of days of childish insult threads to follow.

I’d just like to do praise the mods when the problem is settled sensibly.

In the first case, the speculation thread is closed and the speculator advised to procede by email.

In the final quote we see that a second case has been successfully handled in just such a mature fashion, behind the scenes.

Thank you, mods for this. I sincerely hope it becomes the norm around here.

Yes, this was an especially distasteful episode, and I too was very grateful that the Moderators and Administration put a stop to it before it turned into another freaking witch hunt, complete with the obligatory torches and pitchforks.

Damn. Now that Rush song is in my head again…

I agree, they are all pretty pointless. The number of people pointed at lately is shameful. A lot of names tossed around for nothing, except to hurt regular people, which just makes everyone else cringe with them.

Glad to hear the mods are lowering the volume.

What did I miss?

As near as I can tell, “send us email” has always been Board policy.

You seemed to have missed a lot.
There have been 4-5 troll accusation threads going at once lately (some you seem to be adding to).
It does make me nervous, having a low post count.
I doubt the words of 3 mods will change that, though. There’s still Alphagen saying things like this to start rumors himself:
“Wow, you sure are in a big rush to defend the OP, do you know him? Friend of yours? It’s funny. richman2 did the same thing in a now locked thread. He also made a tactless post on this MB that should have been a simple email response to Tuba. Friends with him too?”

Anyway, I think it’s nice some mods realize this business of questioning everyone’s motives just puts a damper on free discussion.

Ummmm . . . ok. I post to a fairly high number of threads. Could you please post a link or two so I know the specifics? I’d hate to be accused of unfairly disparaging anyone without knowing whom I’m disparaging and in what context. Thanks.

And I am still under the impression that “send us email” has always been Board policy.

Thank you, moderators, for reminding us of this.

It does need to be repeated from time to time, I think, like any board policy, because in the heat of the moment of “discovery” people do tend to forget what their options are.

You don’t seem to disparage people, even if you do add to a thread with troll speculations.
In fact, I think you tend to quell the speculation, and that’s a thing that should be applauded as well.

Oh please. Even if I did get a huge kick out of speading rumors about newbies, we don’t ban people based on rumors.

Besides, if you were a bit more familiar with the SDMB, Green, you’d know that I am one of the most vocal opponents of publicly “outing” suspected trolls. In fact I responded similarly to such an attempted troll outing months ago.

So, as andros pointed out, discouraging public troll outings has been pretty much SOP at the SDMB for quite some time now.

This is true. Alphagine always turns a good ol’ Tar & Featherin’ into a good ol’ Grease & Spoonin’. But hey, he brings marshmallows, so everyone’s happy

Something tells me I’m going to see this line quoted, followed by an accusation that it’s a lie sometime in the future. I think Tuba’s quote about bad behavior being the only thing that gets people banned is starting to get old.

LOL! You didn’t spread rumors! You condemned a guy who did Zip. Zero.

What a bashing. Then you look up and see all the guy did was say he was using a public terminal. Gee, and after someone just was banned for exactly that.

I think you are right, though, that nothings changed. I got creamed royal by a mod and it does make you think differently about them.

20 minutes.

Nice call, waterj2.

Did you think it would only take 20min.'s ?

:wally

Aahh simulposts don’t you love’em.

I guess I’ve said that, and I do mean it.
I’ve asked that this thread be closed.

I just hope all the rowdies above remember the main point, that

Email Saves Lives, and The Life You Save May Be Your Own.

I do think there needs to be a serious crackdown on people - RP’s or not - who spend the time to announce publicly their “troll sightings”, rather than just doing what was requested - submitting the proof to the nearest Mod or Admin.

And yes, in the “British Invasion”, I did wrong by jumping on the troll-sighting bandwagon. I don’t and won’t do that anymore.

PS:

Hey Piano - long time no see. I really think you should get a picture where you aren’t smoking.

Whoa. I’m, like, clairvoyant or something. As far as the trollhunting issue goes, I only remember one instance of accusations being posted on the boards in the last few days. I know I’ve alerted the mods by email a couple times in the past myself, and would like to say I’ve been happy with the results. I’m sure there’s a whole lot more that goes on over email without any disruption on the boards.

Yes! Thanks for reminding me.
I absolutely tanked with my last photo on this thread

I should be getting a photo from a Halloween party tomorrow. Someone always has a camera. This time I’ll have them wait until I know it’s being taken!
