Thanks for the memories, a nostalgic MMP

14F at the moment.
Did I mention lately that I hate all of you who where it is warm?

I would welcome 14F. It’s at least 14 BELOW F, with wind chills of 30 to 40 below. I stayed home from irk. I had more bad news this morning. My brother Brian died last night. He was in hospice with advanced liver cancer. His death truly was a blessing. I feel like the fucking Grim Reaper. Both my brothers and my horse gone within 2 months. I need spring!

Very nice OP Bobbio.

This would have been our first day back to school after a two week break, but apparently -18 degrees and a -49 windchill is too cold for the fragile little kiddies!

Bunch of sissies.

I’ve been on a roll this break time with the gym. I hardly have the time to go when I’m working. I’ve only missed those few days when we were downstate with the kids. Aaaand, I think I’ll make it out again today in case we make it back to school tomorrow, which is not guaranteed as it’s supposed to be nearly as cold tomorrow.

This not working stuff isn’t too bad.

It should not be 14 in Ar-Kansas. That just ain’t right.

It’s 20 F here and getting colder by the hour. I went out for a brief walk and found a very nice uphill trek on a neighborhood street I’ve never used before. That’ll be a good one for getting back into hiking shape.

Feeling a bit better about my prospects now, too. It’s the first week in January and that’s a dead time up here in the mountains. We’re all too cold and tired to go out and do anything. Something will open up. I think I’m just down about it because morale at irk is so low. Detailed AGM is about to murder Squirrel AGM and Big Boss. Fortunately everyone has vacation coming up soon, including me.

Oh** peedin** HUGS I’m so so sorry. I wish I knew what to say…

(Warning: whine following)

I woke up late again… waking several times in the night to put cream on really does not help my sleep pattern. I feel like someone stuffed my head with cotton wool, and I’ve lost half the day.

I don’t appear to have any work at all this week (well, maybe a few hours at thursday evening football, unless it’s rained off like I suspect it will be)- which does mean the sleep thing isn’t as important, but it also means no money. I did get some money for Christmas, but I really don’t want to spent it on general living costs- I was going to use it to buy myself a bicycle, seeing as I now live right next to a major cycle path.

I know there’s plenty of people in worse situations; I have savings, so I ain’t gonna be out on the streets for a long while even with no income, but I still need to sort something out soon.

Anyway, I’m gonna go cheer myself up by sorting through my seed stash and thinking of spring. I have nice leftovers for dindin, and I’m off out to juggling later. And at least it’s warmer than where some of you are! I don’t unnerstand farenheit, but I know enough to know stuff below 0 is too damn cold.

I’m sorry for your loss. Even if it’s peaceful and a blessing, your person is gone. I’m sorry.

Twins of those deceased happens to me almost monthly. Her Ladyship (or if you prefer Old Wench) says its because most of the folks we get close to are “of a type” – older with issues.

But the one I’ll always remember was a living twin. Sort of. Two actually now that I think on it.

One number one ------- somewhere around Pittsburgh is some dude named “Sarge” who looks and sounds enough like me that I’ve been paid back his loans and given his borrowed stuff. It started in 1976 when some guy stopped his car in traffic to give me back “my” record album (Aqualung - so the dude has the same basic taste as me) to someone at the mall a couple years back giving me that $10 she had borrowed ------- over strenuous objections on my part. Never saw him myself but the wife did and was very confused because I never in my life wore a plaid jacket.

Number two ------- about 10 years ago I was driving from Pittsburgh to Orlando straight and stopped in Georgia for gas and food. Cracker Barrel – not great but reliable. The waitress looked so much like my wife at age 18-20 that I did the old “drop-the-fork” double take and stuttered my way through my order. I get the check and here the back is signed with my wife’s first and maiden names. I looked at the waitress and said “If your middle name is Frances you are about to get the biggest tip you ever had”.

She said “How did you guess my middle name?”

I explained it all to her and showed her a picture of us from way back when and she allowed that “this is all too much like the Twilight Zone for me”. She did take the tip though which was more than 4 times the bill.

As for me, I keep checking the basement for pods.

My prayers and best wishes for what they are worth. I’ve had a time or two in my life where my black suit never got back in the closet and it sucks.

Just got a call from my sweetie - they’re in Rahleigh. FIL’s appointment is around 9 tomorrow - I’m hoping to hear something from them by noon.

Not looking forward to going to work tomorrow - but as long as the precip is done, I shouldn’t have to worry about icy roads. It was raining this morning (almost 60° when I left the house) but a few hours ago, the sun came out and my whole way home was on dry roads. So I guess as long as my stupid car starts (which it will, since it’s garaged) I’ll be going in. So much for another snow day.

**BBBobbio **- that was a really sweet story. Methinks you exaggerate about VWife some times.

My brain is mush - maybe I’ll have something of significance to share later. Or not. Happy Frosty Moanday!

I’ve killed my hands enough working on the BRIGHT NEON YELLOW potholder for now. Man, that t-shirt yarn is murder on my right hand. Good thing I’m left-handed, eh?

Busy trying to get someone home to Buffalo, NY by air, not looking good.

Capt

{{{Wetone}}} I’m so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I survived irk. We had beef veggie soup and cornbread for dindin. I’ve also made up burgers to grill on Wednesday due to the fact that it’s somebody’s birthday and that somebody wants cheeseburgers and fries for his birthday dindin. Somebody is a spoiled brat!

Jim it’d take a mighty strong wind to blow somebody from Houston to Buffalo. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is for all y’all complaining that it’s only 50˚F

Well, that was fun. Higgs puked 3 different places in the family room, and I had to keep stopping her from eating it as I was cleaning it up. Idiot dog. I really should pull out the carpet cleaner, but I don’t feel like it. I’ll do it this weekend. It’ll give the Resolve spray lots of time to work!

I just finished making the bed in the guest room - the electric mattress pad still works, so yay! Dishwasher has been emptied and ravioli has been ingested. I need to do a little tidying, then I’ll assume the knit position. Still above freezing here, but I don’t expect that to last for long.

[geezer mode] I was at Purdue for the blizzards of '77 and '78. Eighty below wind chills. 30+ days below zero temps - when it crawled back to the 20s, people were walking around with their coats open like it was spring! They actually closed the university twice because of the wind chills. Good times, good times… [/geezer mode]

You are a very sick person and should speak to your Physician or Clergyman.
