Thanks so much, Hollywood....I get your message loud and clear.

I seem to recall you making some mean statements about the appearance of Katherine Harris in one of your many election threads. You attempted to rationalize this by saying she could do something about her looks. So now I gather that it is acceptable to make fun of someone’s appearance if Stoid doesn’t like that person.
Marc

Hmm. Not sure how it’s relevant, but last weekend I had sex with a woman who weighed about 380 pounds. (That is not a misprint) And it was fine.

My dream woman is Camryn Manheim. I love her personality…and those massive jugs. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

lizard,

I think Camryn would like to hear it. For some unfathomable reason, she seems to find it difficult to hook up with her dream date. In her book she actively solicits her readers to find her a guy.

Maybe you should apply.

stoid

So you saw Wellville, nudge-nudge, wink-wink?

Well now, MGibson, let’s not be too hasty. Stoid’s jokes were very funny.

Is that fine as in “fine”, or fine as in fine…? The first way sounds very Jim’s Journal (“Had sex with a larger woman, and it was okay.”)

I had no idea who this was until the Wellville reference. She was the one who hung out with the Bridget Fonda character, right? Yeah, she’s cute. How do you know what her personality is like?

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but what really fucking chapped my ass is when people used to talk about Monica L. being “fat”. Holy Christ, I weighed the same as her at the time, and I happen to think I was not fat/unattractive. (I could stand to lose a few, but I can fill out a dress like no one’s business) No one has ever said “eww- you’re fat. Get outta here!” to me.

I guess she would have been OK if she had been 110lbs and petite. At least Bill could say he got blown by a skinny intern.

As far as the movie trailer goes, I’d have to see it to judge. I’m a little unclear on the theme of the movie, exactly. And I second the opinion that Cameron Diaz was ugly as a hatful of assholes in Being John M. I, too, almost choked when I saw the previews. So this is the first time in her life that people didn’t give her a second look? What, does she never go out in sweats and a ball cap and no make-up?

Zette

“What, does she never go out in sweats and a ball cap and no make-up?”

—I don’t know about Cameron, but I certainly wouldn’t go out in public like that!

I await your link, MGibson.

I saw her on The Tonight Show, as well as various other interviews. She a sunny, free-spirited person.

Eve, I wouldn’t expect to see you out without your parisol! Heaven forbid!

re: The Princess Diaries. I’ve seen the trailer and I think it might misrepresent the movie, unless they changed it ALOT from the book. In which the girl is not a hopeless dork, just a Doc Marten-wearin’ Greenwich Village alterna-teen who isn’t into the whole lip gloss, hairspray, and fine china deal.

Dahling, isn’t it your JOB to know about Cameron?

Gee, Johnson, are you susffering from the same memory failures that Marc is, or are you just assuming his words are gospel?

Because I never made any such jokes katherine Harris or anyone else.

stoid

rmariamp, they must have changed it from the book, because in the movie she’s a total clutz. She’s playing softball as catcher, tries to throw the ball back to the pitcher and nails the batter in the nose. She’s at a dinner party, and sets the guy next to her on fire. She’s being taught how to sit, properly, and falls out of her chair when she crosses her ankles! In the movie, she doesn’t appear to be a laid-back alterna-hip teen, but rather a glasses-wearing, curly-haired geek. (This from a glasses-wearing, straight haired geek.)

Acco40, the way I see it, ZRUDEDOG made a couple of good points surrounded by stupid remarks with a strongly attacking attitude. And stated personal opinions as facts.

Zette, I had the same confusion over Monica L. Everyone in the media (and IRL) kept calling her fat, but she didn’t look fat to me. A little plump, but hardly obese.

Also, I happen to prefer skinny to plump. However, I was offended by the preview because the whole thing was one big fat joke. Every scene was just a visual gimmick of a skinny girl (in Hal’s view that we see) juxtaposed with a fat outcome. Like she takes off her panties and throws them to him, and he holds up a tent. (Mild exaggeration for descriptive effect.) With the occasional insert of a fat body double that everyone else sees, to remind us “she’s really fat”. It pretends to be about the message of look at the inside, not the outside, but the way it does it is by laughing at the outside. Like I said, tacky and juvenile. And downright rude.

This is prehaps the best thread I have read in a LONG time.

I’m not rippin on Mr. Z whatever his name is because it was done already. But I think he (and some other posters) confuse fat with “thick” (I think the closest word is slightly plump) Monica L. is NOT Fat. per se but “thick” and so was Marlyn Monoroe. Yet I doubt any true woman lovin man would dare call Marlyn Monroe uguly.

And yes the bootylicious song is refreence to ass shakin.

As far as the movie goes I saw the trailer on E! (And we all know how those chicken legs at that network would LOVE that movie) I pretty much feel the same way as most of you about it. It’s not funny, and it’s as sterotypical and dumbass as blackface.

But this OP reminds me of when I saw Road Trip (yes the movie) and how they portrayed the big balck girl. To me she was the most beautiful woman I have seen in a LONG time, but it was like she was a fat joke as well (“What did you do,kill a cheetah?”) I dunno,it might be a race thing, because everybody I know that watched the movie thought she was hella-beautiful and would get with her at the drop of a dime, including myself.

You’re absolutely right, Stoid. You never made jokes about Katherine Harris or anyone else (my memory is obviously faulty).

Rather, you made mean-spirited comments about Karen Hughes (emphasis mine):

and

Not about Katherine Harris, and certainly no jokes. “Not funny, just crude and cruel. And lame.”

Very good. You found the thread.

I wasn’t make jokes about anything, and the comments you quote weren’t ragging her, they were describing her. I found her unpleasant, I still find her unpleasant to look upon for reasons that have little or nothing to do with her genetic gifts or grooming choices, and everything to do with who she is and how she presents herself. Not to mention what she stands for.

Which was all discussed in that thread - 9 months ago.

stoid

Sagasumo: The word you’re looking for is normal. Gwyneth Paltrow in thin, Camryn Manheim is fat, Monica Lewinski is normal. There seems to be this idea in America, or at least Hollywood, that you are either so thin that you are in mortal danger of storm drains, or you are an enourmous bloated cow.

I am good with the search function, Stoid. Yes, it was discussed ad nauseum nine months ago…why would that be?

Call me crazy, but I find it hard to reconcile

I surely have no desire to open any of that discussion again, but in my view these comments do support MGibson’s earlier post.
