Who’s praising Obama for what’s happening in Egypt? Near as I can tell, he’s watching it unfold the way the rest of us are.
Where did I say that?
Dollars to donuts, though, if it came to pass there’d be a Pit Thread (excuse me, another Pit Thread) about 1 minute after it hit the news, started by and posted to by most of the same people praising Obama for the wonderful events taking place in Egypt right now, on W for the wonderful mess in Egypt due to his inept foreign policy.
And yes, I would take a certain amount of amusement from that thread, in a “Oh fuck, I cannot believe the utter hypocrisy and total horeshit these stupid cocksuckers not only shovel, but swallow whole” kind of vibe.
As far as taking pleasure from an unfortunate turn of events (from our POV) in Egypt, well, as I described it, that would be democracy in action.
Wouldn’t it?
And that’s always a pleasure to watch.
Oh. Wait…
I feel like taking a dump. However, I’m not going to start a thread about it.
Responding to ExTank: Whereas I would feel sadness at what had developed. It doesn’t fucking matter who is in power when people get hurt, you shouldn’t feel anything but bad.
Dude, when you get so damn partisan that pain brings you pleasure, it’s way past time to hang it up.
I, too, don’t see a whole bunch of people praising Obama over Egypt. He didn’t really do anything publicly other than gently push Mubarak out. He knew how things were going and stayed out of it. He just let it happen.
What I have seen a lot of is the right trying to blame Obama, but just not being able to come up with anything to say. All of the high profile speeches by potential candidates at CPAC had nary a mention of Egypt, only the biggest story in the world.
What liberals are praising him about anything? Liberals typically despise Obama.
Here’s a thought: If y’all really want to know how liberals feel about the President, you could give a listen to a liberal or two, instead of getting it 2nd and 3rd hand from your favorite commentators.
Neither Bush nor Obama deserves any particular credit or blame for either recent or soon-forthcoming events in Egypt.
What “favorite commentators”? I get my opinion of liberals from “a liberal or two” (or three, or four, or…), all of whom despise Obama as a right winger, a suck-up to the Republicans, and someone who has shielded Bush and continued Bush’s policies.
I was adding to your post, not disagreeing with it. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
OK.
The internet and cell phones get the credit.
Bush deserves about as much credit as Obama deserving the Nobel Peace prize.
The jury on Egypt is out. They now have a state run by the army. Most of those who the experts pick to be the future leader are in the army. How does that equal a democracy. They do not have a constitution that gives the people rights. They do not have a government that sets up input for the people.
Perhaps what is meant, is a government run by the army is what Bush wanted the middle east to have. Then we may be off and running.
Aha. So the credit properly should go to Al Gore.
On the subject of hypocrisy, why are you complaining about how Obama is getting credit for what’s happening in the Middle East in a thread titled “Thank You, George Bush”? Shouldn’t you be in some thread titled “Thank You, Barack Obama”?
Noooo! :d
How dare you bring rationality into this discussion!

I will not celebrate the Egyptian Revolution until I get a better idea of where it is going.
wmfellows summed it up nicely in post 30.
