Even the most despised, trollish, useless posters can usually honestly say “well, some people think I’m great.” It doesn’t say all that much.
Also, claiming that it’s always the same people complaining is just plain wrong. I’m historically not one of the people who complains about you, yet I’ve now joined in. Others have certainly thrown up their hands and moved on. For someone who’s pitted as often as you, you claim suspiciously little opposition and suspiciously large support.
And don’t try to lump all of us complainers in with the anonymous off-board business to try to make us look like some cabal of people that are just out to get you. I’ve never even seen one of these “snark boards”, and it sounds utterly pathetic to me.
I don’t even have a particularly big beef with you. I value your perspective, and respect that you are quite solidly in the “people who know what they’re talking about” camp. But this doesn’t mean you have to jump into random threads to cram your unassailable political views down our throats. Sometimes people just don’t feel like talking about it.
Just wanted to make a more useful post and address this.
Yes, there are pathetic people who hang out in the anon. But believe it or not fairly normal people do as well. I post over there anon and I freely admit it. I post in basically the same style as I do under my name, only I swear more and take wilder guesses. So am I a pathetic coward? Are all my comments here invalidated?
Despite Liberal’s slant, there wasn’t some anon plot to have him banned. Some people want him banned and asked people to post “proof”, but it was really no different than a Pit thread that had a link avalanche of idiocy examples. There were also people posting “He hasn’t done anything wrong” anonymously.
It’s basically a wild west Pit and trying to demonize it is quite peculiar to me. People get asked “cite” there just as much as here. Anyway, the anon stuff is easy enough to forget and it’s low class to try and pump yourselves up saying “At least I’m better than them”. Give it a rest people.
I’m not trying to claim I’m better than them, but the whole concept sounds like it’s geared towards creating drama that you’re prohibited from creating here, which honestly sounds kind of pathetic. If that’s not what it’s about, then more power to 'em. I don’t mean to discredit them, but if someone tries to discredit me by saying I’m one of them, I’m going to make it clear I’m not.
Keep in mind that, for all of its noble sounding goals of fighting ignorance, the SDMB is really nothing more than a place where you can be entertained by and on occasion learn from a bunch of interesting people. Given that, I submit that drama has a very strong component of being entertaining. That is just human nature. When the SDMB went to pay, the fact is that we lost a lot of dramatic and entertaining posters (trolls if you like). The anon boards are simply an outlet for folks that still find value in loons. In other words, just because you may really dig Shakespeare and I may really dig Clive Barker there is nothing that makes either of those choices “pathetic”, we simply are entertained by different things.
What I find pathetic are the folks that learn (supposedly) about those places from a hit and run copy paste job like the one that gum (how is old gum, by the way?) did and then just have to post about how shocked and dismayed they are that such places exist. You wish. It is not as if they are or ever have been a secret, and it is not as if they are passing encrypted messages to terrorist cells. They are simply the Pit, squared.
For fuck sake, this is the Internet. You could go out right now and download videos of people fucking animals, or pictures of bombing victims in Iraq but you are going to be shocked because there are places where people gossip about things that people here do (under anonymous usernames, I might add). Give me a break.
While it is true that anything that I have to say, I am more than glad to say here under my Binarydrone persona I am not going to pretend that I am like some scandalized aunty that had no idea that the Internet contained such places or that I don’t enjoy a good trainwreck there as much as I would here.
The difference is, that is a discussion board organized and dedicated to the purpose of talking about people at another discussion board. Sure, sniping goes on here, but it isn’t the prime directive of the place. There, the whole purpose is to rag on other people. It strikes me as quite catty, petty, and frankly akin to a bunch of 14 year old girls beset with a particularly nasty tendency to relational aggression.
Hey, if that floats your boat, knock yourself out. One does not need to come to defend oneself here for that, nor do I have to stop expressing the opinion that such behavior is quite pathetic and strikingly like a bunch of mean girls. Why not stay there and talk about what awful clothes everyone is wearing, who is getting fat, who is taking whom to the dance, and who stopped talking to whom?
Fair enough galt, and I actually agree it’s not fair of Lib to try and lump you anywhere in order to discount your point. But we all know that a martyr complex isn’t a new Liberal facet.
Different people use the anon arena for different purposes and I guess we should leave it at that.

Not if you thought that, no. But the working premise among a few seems to be that I do not take that step — that I go clicking through the forums, looking for places where I can fart, shit, and drop bombs. I am no different than you in the way you describe yourself. I do not post when I believe that my post will be off-topic, needlessly inflammatory, or otherwise not a worthwhile contribution to the thread. In fact, before I post, I have determined that my point needs to be made. That you disagree is your privilege, and I would respect your disagreement. But that you paint me with the brush of your own perception as though it in some way meaningfully defines what I am goes beyond your privilege. And I won’t respect that.
Well imthjckaz you are convuluting two different things, my site and my anonymous posting. My site may make a guess but it’s always sorrounded by links for perusal. It also specifically warns against believing everything you read. If I go to all that effort and you don’t even notice it, I’m pretty sure that’s your failing not mine.
