OK, no prob, I was in a hurry this morning and just closed the thread. I’ll re-open it and move it.
The show’s not that bad; the level of comedy you heard in the non-Obama segments is about what you can expect from the show week to week. It’s just not Daily Show quality, is all.
Daniel
PS - it’s sheer dumb luck that I happened to look in the Pit to see this thread. I haven’t even read it, just the first post. For future info, you would have got faster response if you had just hid the REPORT BAD POST button in the closed thread and asked me to please move it.
I might not have seen this thread at all. I don’t usually read in the Pit unless I’m very bored. If you had hit REPORT BAD POST, I would have seen it several hours earlier. I’m just sayin.
That’s mighty good of you, Dex.
Thanks.
thanks upthread for the heads up re: Obama. I just listened to it–he was great!
I thought that too, until the next night when I saw Bernie and Bill O’Reilly having a whine-fest over how Stewart had “mistreated” him and his latest “literary” offering. Goldberg got soundly skewered on TDS but waited until in was on home-territory with O’Reilly to exsanguinate in public. Bernie puts up a good front, but he’s much more thin-skinned than he allowed Stewart to see.

Same here. He seemed to really wimp-out with Rick Santorum, who was a comedy gold-mine on a silver platter (how’s that for mixing metaphors…) :smack: Yet, when faced with someone relatively innocous (B.Goldberg), he manages to pull off a masterpiece.
Go figure…

Which only proves what a complete tool Goldberg is, because Stewart may have shot him down pretty damned good, he was polite when doing so, and truthfully, he never took any personal shots. Compared to the thrashing that Tucker Carlson got, Goldberg was treated with kid gloves.
I guess some people can dish it out, but they can’t take it when it turns back on them.
Can I get a big "AMEN? here!
Jon totally out-classed him.
Amen to that.
and I really don’t even know what Amen means other than agreement and approval
You god damn wimp. That is the lamest bit of moderating ever. A full-on troll sends a thread into the ditch, and you say,
Great. No threat of punishment for continued bad behavior. You broaden the flacid wrist-slap to all the other posters. And then you close the thread and only reopen when posters who were following the rules complain about your unfair treatment of them. Nice apology, too, you shithead.
You can’t control Daily Show threads? That’s your problem. This fiasco has only one bad poster - Liberal the troll - and was still unadministrated at 11:00 PM Central when I saw it. I don’t know what your hours are, but I assume the thread would have been read by you first if you’ve had this problem before. But no complaint from you that a partisan hack was whinnying in the Cafe. At least you had all day today to crap all over the thread. You are failing. Why don’t give the show to Uke and crawl back to moderating the Mailbag forum where you can’t fuck up so bad? Ass.
Hey, Jaime, why don’t you tell us how you really feel?
lol.
I was actually dumb founded by that post. I must be missing something. I am still fairly new to the boards, is there some feuds I need to be aware of?
Is Liberal a known troublemaker?
Does Jaime hate CK or just living up to the thread title to the max?
Will Batman escape this devious trap? Oh wait wrong thread.
Wow. Note to self: don’t piss off don Jaime.
On preview.
Errrrr, I’ll leave that to better hands. Basicly, Lib has strong Libertarian views and they tend to come out in almost every thread he’s invovled in.
Only if he’s prepared and/or being aided by ripped shirt Kirk.
The thing most striking about Liberal’s first comment in that thread, the one that started this whole fiasco, is that it wasn’t even remotely topical to the thread. It’s not like the Cafe Society thread become a great debate because people disagreed about some aspect of the show, or some other facet of the specific show being discussed.
He just walked in, slammed the posters, and started the semantic nitpickery he’s so fond of. Completely derailed an otherwise decent discussion that was civil and totally within the bounds of CS.
I’m a democratic socialist, not a Marxist, but for Liberal I’ll make an exception. When the revolution comes, we’ll take all his money and make him live in a housing project and drive a Trabant. We won’t actually socialize car production or housing–we’ll do this just for him. Because we have “wealth envy” and think money falls from the sky.
Yep. That thread should be bookmarked for the next time someone asks for an example of him being an ass.
Liberal is…slippery. “A known troublemaker” doesn’t quite do him justice.
I wasn’t aware of any don Jaime/CK Dexter feud, but I shall also make a note not to piss don Jaime off.
And I find Jon Stewart’s interviews uneven. Sometimes he’s dead-on, and they’re great, sometimes he’s suckholing, sometimes he’s treating someone with kid gloves, and sometimes he’s handing them their own ass. But who watches Jon Stewart for the interviews?
In essence, Liberal is an unmoderated poster for reasons that remain a mystery. He has a history years long of being a poisoning and thread derailing presence wherever he rears his head.
We have, in the past, had posters banned not for a specific violation but for having a long history of borderline behavior (see december as an example) so why the administration here wont kick this guy to the curb is beyond me.
So it would be right for me to ignore/report him if he does something like this again. Because I will probably now be guilty of starting other Daily Show posts in Cafe to discuss the humour if it strikes me as funny. Nobody I work with watches the show and my wife usually falls asleep before he goes on. He actually had me halfway convinced I was in the wrong.
I suppose that it would be technically the right thing to do, though I am obviously not a moderator. I would offer the personal opinion that it would probably firmly fall into the ream of tilting at windmills.
