But as I call for room rates, I say DAMN, DAMN, DAMN! The Coconut Grove Art Festival is that weekend, and everything is BOOKED SOLID around here. I retract my earlier date statement, and weasel on back to Feb 8, 9, 10, when ya’ll will actually be able to get a room somewhere.
I found a place at $75/night for 1 or 2, or $88 for an efficiency. I’ll check it out today after work. Looks good from the road.
Feb 8-9-10 work best for me, too. I’d love to have a birthday DopeFest! Can you possibly imagine the shenanigans? Who knows…I may get more ink done to comemmorate it.
I checked out the Riviera Court Motel, decent family owned motel on the river, with rooms having 1 Queen and 1 Twin bed going for $75 and then rooms with 2 Queens, plus a kitchenette with microwave, stove, sink, and FRIDGE going for $88. Adjoining rooms have connecting doors. This place has a pool on the river, plus a neat area to hang near the pool for those late-night shenanigans. It is a short taxi ride from the Party Central location (Cocowalk). I have a 1960’s postcard photo I’ll put up when I get a scanner. Not the Hilton, but for those keeping track of dollars, this seems to be the best spot.
If everyone here gets their inheritances in the next few weeks, the Mayfair House Hotel is SMACK DAB in the middle of the Zone. For about $300/night. Yeah, I thought so.
There is a Marriott Residence Inn within spitting distance, and across the street from my condo, and it comes in around $170 a night for three folks.
Then there is the Hampton Inn, a few walking blocks from the action, coming in at $129/night, for 2 people. These are standard rates and may be able to be reduced a bit.
I propose the Riviera, for it’s charm, view, pool, and kitchenettes. 305-665-3528.
Once again, we’re looking at Friday, Feb 8, and Saturday Feb 9 for those hoping to enjoy two evenings of fun and frolicking.

UncleBill, count me in as a maybe for Saturday night. I’m also in FL, but I’m very very poor. On the other hand, I work for Hampton Inn, so I might be able to squeeze a good rate out of those people. ($129 a night? Crikey!)
So, is this a definite?

Ah, yes, the duties are overwhelming me, as I am still without home internet access, and have been out of town nine of the last ten days, but yeah, verily, let it be known to those far and wide, that this here thread has been dutifully bumped. I am checking out restaurants and dive bars, and pinned down some for our dinners and breakfasts.
And yes, this is a definite. I will be having a DopeFest Feb 8, 9, 10, whether or not ya’ll want to join me is up to you, but a good time will be had by me, plus anyone else who shows. I’d hate to get debaucherous all by myself!
OK, just kidding, I know we have confirmed folks coming in. The Rivera has most of the rooms (they have 30) still available, 305-665-3528, and I have left the group name as the Cecil Adams party, and assured the lady we will not be partying at the hotel itself (har-har-har) but in Coconut Grove. What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.
Take me off the “confirmed” list. Things may change, but for right now I’m a “maybe.”

I gave it a shot, but the best they would do for me was $90 per night, 2 double beds (I was guessing about twenty rooms).
This is not a particularly good company to work for.
