Grey Cup will be on November 24, 2013, at Taylor Field, Regina!
It’s never too early to start the CFL season thread, so here we are.
And, just to start us off, here’s what Taylor Field looked like on April 1.
It will get better. I keep telling myself that.
Well, we’ve found out what the new Ottawa team will be: the RedBlacks.
Ottawa RedBlacks officially revealed as newest CFL team
The worst kept secret in Ottawa, and maybe in the entire Canadian Football League, was revealed Saturday afternoon as the Ottawa RedBlacks is the league’s newest football franchise.
Ottawa’s third CFL franchise unveiled the new name at an event for season’s ticket holders at the Ernst and Young Centre after months of speculation and a leak of the name and logo in late May.
The team’s motto will be, “balanced, dangerous, unstoppable,” as outlined in a promotional video that detailed the history of the colours “red” and “black” in Ottawa sports history.
A few thousand season’s ticker holders were on hand as RedBlacks was revealed as Ottawa’s newest CFL team name.
The RedBlacks are slated to begin playing at Frank Clair Stadium in the summer of 2014 after construction should be completed at Lansdowne Park.
And the exhibition season opens with the Riders playing the guys in the ugly green uniforms, as the Piper Cub calls them.
So, demand for tickets for the Grey Cup was so high that the CFL decided to go with a ticket lottery this year : if your name came up, it gave you a right to buy four tickets.
Of course, if you’re a Rider season ticket holder, you were able to buy your own seats back in December. I have a feeling Mosaic will be very green at Grey Cup.
♫ The boys are back in town, the boys are back in town! ♫
A most excellent home opener for the Riders - a competitive first half, dominant second half:
trailing 21-14 at the halftime, the Riders pulled ahead in the second half, scoring on every possession, the Stamps did not score for the entire half;
Riders dominated time of possession: 22 minutes in the second half, 8 minutes for the Stamps;
Stamps had all of two first downs during the second half;
Riders intercepted in the end zone on the last play of the game.
Final score: 36-21.
Riders the only undefeated team in the CFL.
I wouldn’t go planning parade routes just on the basis of being 2-0.
True, but it’s a most excellent start to the season!
They started well last year, too. I’m not raising my expectations just yet.
So, Gorsnak , are you a believer yet, after the manhandling they gave the Stamps? 3-0 now, still the only undefeated team in the league.

Well, still the only undefeated team (4-0); manhandled the Ti-Cats, 37-0; over 500 yards total; Sheets at 130 yards rushing; no interceptions/turn-overs yet this year.
Still on the fence, Gorsnak ?
This isn’t so much about an objective analysis of team performance as it is protecting my fragile psyche from hurt and betrayal.
Kent Austin, quoted in today’s Leader-Post: “I’ve had a lot of good times in this stadium. Tonight wasn’t one of them.”
The Ti-Cats are running around in retro red long johns. It’s not a good look.
What has happened to the Roughriders? Did they forget how to play or something?
The Roughriders do this every damn season. They start off awesome, then choke at the halfway point.
So, Gorsnak , are you still sheltering your fragile psyche?
Off to Calgary!

But of course. I pessimistically expect the Stamps to win, and so shall either be right or pleasantly surprised.
I, on the other hand, am looking forward to freezing my delicate little tush at Taylor Field, watching the Riders one more time this season!
