The 101st Grey Cup Thread!

If the Riders make it to the Grey Cup, I’m boarding up my windows and hiding with a baseball bat. I figure either way we’re going to have a Vancouver on our hands.

So, you’re in Calgary, and not letting us take you out for a beer, eh?

Freezing your tush off, indeed! That game we went to a couple of weekends ago was the coldest I’ve been in a very long time!

Sorry, no - we don’t get to Calgary very often, and Mrs Piper has some intensive shopping planned, then the game and home.

If we get there, that is - we’re in the departure lounge at YYR, watching the snow fall and the ploughs at work, and the red “delayed” notices popping up on all the departure screens.

A friend of ours just commented: "have you thought about what happens if the Argos win on Sunday? Rob Ford comes to all the Grey Cup parties in Regina, that’s what!

I’m scared!

Go Ti-Cats! Good luck, Hank! [Piper chokes a bit]

It is a MISERABLE day here in Calgary today. The U of C Dinos and the Western Mustangs are not going to have much fun playing the Mitchell Bowl at McMahon this afternoon. McMahon seems uniquely positioned in the city to be the coldest place in town at all times. I’m gonna have to give Calgary the edge in that game because I don’t think soft Ontario sissy-boys will know what to do in this kind of weather.

Should be slightly less crapulent tomorrow for the CFL Western Final, but I hope the Piper family brought their woolies and a few blankets, 'cuz once the sun goes down, it’ll be frigid.

I’ve also heard we’re running low on watermelons already, so if you didn’t bring your own to wear on your heads, you may be out of luck.

Incidentally, here’s a preview of tomorrow’s West Final.

Well, we made it. The flight was okay, just the waiting to leave Regina was a bit stressful. Good thing we decided to leave today and not tomorrow!

And there is almost always a cool breeze IIRC.

I’ll be watching from either my easy chair by the fire, or at the local sports bar. I haven’t decided yet. I do not envy you at McMahon in this weather.

At any rate, enjoy the game!

Thanks!

-20 C this morning in Calgary. Expected to be -10 C by kickoff. No wind. Snow has been ploughed off the field.

“Cool” is not the word I would choose. “Frigid” is usually more accurate.

“No wind.” Hahahahahahahahahah!

There will be wind. And wherever you’re sitting, it’ll be right in your face. Unless you’re in a luxury box. Then it’ll be less wind and maybe off to the side a bit.

And in the words of the Friendly Giant, “look up - look way up!” Row 60 on the shady side with a wonderful panorama of the field!

“Cool breeze” - you’re funny. I’ve been in McMahon Stadium for a football game - I think my butt got frozen to the seat. And that was in August! (Hah! I make choke! But not by much!)

(PPS - Sorry, I posted in the Canadope thread about the games today - I forgot about this thread. My bad.)

Are they heaving a collective sigh of relief in Regina that the Tigercats won, hence Mayor Crackpipe will have no reason to show up in town?

He’d just get laughed at.

The weird thing is that Kent Austin, Andy Fantuz, and Henry Burris spit are coming home to Taylor Field to play against the Riders in the Grey Cup.

I’m officially staying pessimistic, since it’s been working fairly well.

I’m kind of heaving a sigh of relief, since I (originally from Toronto) won’t have to yell, “Arrrrr-gos!” in a sports bar full of Riders fans (which local CFL fans all seem to be).

I’ve heard that all the Tim Hortons in Calgary are offering a special promotion for Stamps fans this week: if you come in with a used ticket from the Western Final, you get a free turnover!

Grey Cup Festival kicked off at noon today with opening ceremonies at the Big Beer Tent. Riders Pep Band played, crowds cheered , then went back into the light blizzard (snow, winds, -16 C).

Hospitality rooms open today; current temp is -18 C, with windchill taking it to -31 C.

Minor crisis chez Pipers: could not find Grey Cup tickets! Two day hunt throughout house, turning out drawers, files and calendars was fruitless. Gloom and despondency :frowning:

Fortunately, through the miracle of modern IT, the Riders ticket office could cancel the lost tickets, which all have bar codes on them, and re-issue new ones.

So these are useless then? Dammit, there go my weekend plans! :stuck_out_tongue:

Foiled again!
