Going to the Mosaic Underground Tent tonight. Media folk are repeatedly explaining that it’s not really underground, but since Mosaic Potash is sponsoring it, they wanted “underground” in the name. ???
Temp is currently -20, plus windchill. Outdoor events this afternoon in Victoria Park were a bit chilly, but the Cub had fun catching a football. Some of the Ti-cat players are rumored to have got frost-bitten at their Wednesday practice.
I was at the bus depot today picking up my mom. The security dude was wearing an Argos jersey - yeah, you’d have to be armed to do that this weekend!
Grey Cup hospitality rooms - where else can you get BBQ Beef on a bun, perogies, and lobster rolls all at one venue?
(Plus beer h
Does Mosaic dig stuff out of the ground? Maybe that is their justification for the name?
Oh, it’s a mining company - just seems a silly thing.
-28 C this morning. Forecast is still at -2 for kickoff, which seems overly optimistic.!
- 1 C !! Woo-hoo!!
Brisk wind but nothing like last week in Calgary.
GO RIDERS!!
I’ve been to a lot of Grey Cup games and I’ve never seen such a crowd of one team’s colours. It’s like a Riders home game on steroids. I’ve seen maybe a dozen Ti-cat fans so far in our section, a few Stamps, Lions and Esks.
Everyone else is Green!
I just turned the game on - out for my birthday - and boy, that looks like a fumble to me.
Happy birthday, RickJay, from one Grey Cup baby to another.
As I said to my husband, Henry Burris has caught almost all of the snaps to him today!
Hooray! We’re not failures!
I wonder what the body count is gonna be at work tomorrow?
I’m from Toronto.
The first CFL game I remember was on TV at my grandparents house. Late 70s. It was Warren Moon’s Edminton Eskimoes curbstomping another team. That team was the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
I decided at that point, I’d cheer for the underdog. The Riders were my team.
My parents had season tickets for the Argos. At Exhibition Stadium. Every year, I claimed the Saskatchewan game. My father would take me. I learned all the players names. They would frequently lose though.
Grey Cup, 1989. At the SkyDome, since it just opened. Saskatchewan versus Hamilton. My parents had tickets. I was offered the chance to go. Turned it down - I had a high school physics exam the next day I needed to study for. Watched the game on TV anyway. Greatest Grey Cup game ever. Tony Champion with an amazing touchdown catch for Hamilton. Robokicker Dave Ridgeway winning it at the end.
Don’t remember how the exam went, but I will note that I am not an engineer.
Tonight’s game was not the classic that the 1989 game was, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations to Saskatchewan. I’m wearing my Dave Elgaard jersey with Rider Pride.
Congratulations, Rider Nation!
I watched the first half of the game and just flipped back to it a couple of times after that. Wearing my Rider shirt must have helped!
I felt a little bad about things like that muffed snap where it was clear that the noise was causing problems for them. Not that bad, but a little bad.
I really enjoyed watching that one - especially the Rider fans wearing watermelons on their heads. Apparently the stores in Pile of Bones were sold out of green hats?
Yes, this Yank knows why they punt on third down up there. Congrats, Rider Nation!
Wearing melons on their heads is a proud tradition for Rider Nation fans. I don’t know why.
