Yeah, I don’t get the fascination with “Sir” Paul McCartney. Sounds like the same-ol shit to me.
I love the fact that McCartney’s still hitting all the notes and looks like a million bucks after being in the business for the greater part of his life. Rock, on Sir Paul.
Gotta love Dave on the drums (I’ve always said he was a better drummer then guitar player).
I’m out of breath. I just did the pony, the wiggle and the swim.
That was great!
Sir Paul was playing a pretty guitar!
Yep, his hair makes me think of Animal from the muppets. He was beating the crap out of those drums, and you could tell he was just thrilled.
Agreed. While it wasn’t terrible, the time would have been better served having Brian Wilson play something off "That Lucky Old Sun.
Was that album nominated for any Grammys? Cause it should have been.
Ahh. The memory of The Beatles made it great for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Paul. And he did sound very good. But what’s up with the three tins of black Kiwi shoe polish on his hair?
He is. I guess I’m not the only one who was reminded of his youth not by McCartney on bass, but by Grohl on drums.
I can’t hate, it makes him look younger. Why not Grecian Formula it up?
Also: DIAF, John Mayer.
This Sugarland song kills.
Sugarland appears to be the country version of The Ting Tings; boring, two chord schmaltz. Why do we have to wait so long in between great performances (other than the Rap Pack / McCartney back to back)? It’s the motherfucking Grammys! This should be the empitome of good musical collaborations.
And yes, Atomic, stoke one up extra hot for young Master Mayer.
*Wasn’t replying to you Atomic, blame the simulpost.
I’m not tied into any one genre, so I’m not sure what you object to, here. I’m not a fan of MIA, but I liked the combo rap performance. The Sugarland song is a really heartfelt one, albeit not as good as the video version, where the singer loses it and her bawling really adds to the emotion. Every year has its ups and downs, but I think it’s good so far. It can’t all be high points, especially when playing to a varied audience.
Edit: not meant as a criticism, just trying to figure out what you think sucks so bad. No one at Grammy level truly sucks, or we’d be watching Idol.
I’m not watching because I am spinning my own soundtrack tonight for my web browsing, but I checked out the nominees.
I will admit I like Coldplay. I own the first 2 albums and I bought that Violet Hill song from the new album, they are decent. But why are they nominated for like everything? Not deserved, IMO.
Hope Radiohead wins something. And NIN deserves the instrumental award. Sam Sparro’s song Black and Gold has been in my rotation, hope he wins too. And Beck.
Radiohead: Good performance, awful hair. Love the understated marching band.
I’m so glad that I got a haircut last month or else I think I would be looking like Thom.
Not a bad version of the song but I still like it better without the marching band.
I hear what you’re saying re: the need to have many different genres represented on stage. Admittedly, I don’t listen to a large amount of contemporary country for the simple reason that I cannot tell any of it apart. Sugarland sounds identical to so much other country music that I have heard, same with Carrie Underwood. It is all so derivative of everything that came before it.
Now, I know that EVERY genre has these derivative acts (rap/hip-hop being the worst offender, IMHO). HOWEVER, rap acts that ARE new and unique and bring something interesting to the table were represented here with Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and MIA. To me, they could have replaced Sugarland and Carrie Underwood with any artist in the top 40 Country charts and I wouldn’t have noticed a difference.
I didn’t say anything in this thread to offend anyone, and I havn’t taken any offence from any of the responses. I honestly started it to hear what everyone liked and disliked.
Vonnegut said that all music was sacred, and I am convinced he was right…
…just not Country
Man, Rush got passed over again.
Radiohead with that marching band was cooler than it had a right to be.
When it comes to Toby Keith, I concur. Great performance by JT and T.I. Very soulful.
