The 2009 NFL draft thread

Of course it’s fucking irrelevant to football. It is not irrelevant to establishing the fact that I am not biased in Stafford’s favor.

I’ll take a 5 year bet on Stafford being better than Sanchez.

Who said you were?

That’s fine. I never questioned your bias, although I’d have to now.

Nobody said I was. I offered it up unasked in my original post on the subject, in an attempt to establish the fact that I am unbiased when comparing the two as football players.

Why?

AFAICT, you didn’t actually offer an opinion on Stafford- so who the hell cares whether you’re biased or not?

I though it was obvious that I was of the opinion that Stafford was a better QB than Greene, for the purposes of the discussion. If I made that unclear, I apologize.

Because I never questioned any bias. You were the one that brought up a point that wasn’t even being talked about, so it’s fair game now.

Maybe we got off on the wrong foot here. Shall we start over again?

I’m not a huge Stafford fan at first overall, especially to the Lions. I don’t see how he isn’t another version of David Greene, but with a bigger arm. As a point of data, I said that David Greene put up better numbers in the Georgia offense (which is a pro-style offense, if I’m not mistaken) and how David Greene is now retired and out of the league after 3 seasons. I don’t believe I called into question whether or not David Greene was a better human being than Mr. Stafford, or whether or not he was a nice person at all. I don’t believe I ever said you were biased over anything at all. If my previous posts did give you that impression, then I’m sorry you got that impression, but it wasn’t what I was trying to convey.

Are we better now?

For Stafford’s sake, I hope he’s a better quarterback than David Greene.

I don’t think Stafford’s potential career vis-a-vis Greene is really relevant, since Stafford will be a top pick and virtually guaranteed at least one season as a starter, while Greene was a 4th round pick and never threw a regular season pass.

On Giants boards there are quite a few people reporting that the deal is done with the terms being the 2nd the Giants got from the Saints and a 4, plus a performance based pick next year. Supposedly the only hold up is the Giants working out a contract with Edwards.

For the last time, I was just showing impartiality. It happens all the time around here. I never thought that you assumed I was biased. Let’s get over it.

The entire reason Greene is out of the NFL in 4 seasons is b/c of his weak arm. Saying that Stafford is like Greene with a better arm is tantamount to saying Kobe Bryant is like Scottie Pippen with a better jump shot.

That’s what I heard as well, but that the Browns really wanted the same deal that the Lions got with the Cowboys over Roy Williams.

That’s actually a pretty good deal. I’d give up a second and a 4th for Mr. Butterfingers in a heartbeat, especially considering that the going rate for an injury-prone and whiny tight end is a 2nd and a 5th.

I completely agree.

Kobe Bryant and Scottie Pippen are both hall of famers. Not apt. I get what you’re saying (I think).

I brought David Greene up because of their time in Georgia. They both ran the same offense and David Greene arguably ran the offense better and with less of a surrounding cast.

Is it? Bryant and Pippen are both among the 50 best players in history.

Anyway, IIRC the Colts cut him because he couldn’t figure out their playbook, not because of his arm.

It’d be the steal of the decade. I’d be pissed.

Only one of them is among the 10 best players in history. If you’re truly having a hard time understanding the analogy (which I doubt), substitute someone else’s name from the college ranks who wasn’t successful in the NBA.

Not true at all. I have no idea if that was even reported, but I know it isn’t why he was cut.
