The Amazing Race 12/09/07 - "The Cherry on the Sundae...

No, you’re in my head. You just type faster and aren’t IMing at the same time.

This really got me. I heard it and I thought “hey, that makes sense. Kiddo is finally thinking”. Then I see grampa rowing and started wondering “Did I hear that wrong? Was it grandpa who said that to kiddo?”.

As other have suggested before, I am sure that they do have an agreement where grampa is supposed to do as much as possible. I am sure this is grampa’s wish and kiddo is just there as an escort.

I so thought this leg would be a non-elimination. They really surprised me there. I sure hope they really were done away with.

Can anyone tell me what the previews for next week showed ? (spoiler box if needed, not sure how you guys have been handling that sort of thing in these threads I haven’t really gotten into the TAR threads before this.) Thanks!

goth meltdown! Dude asks chick to stop the car, presumably so he can drive

Also,
Grandpa gets freaked out over a Roadblock. We saw a shot of him saying he couldn’t do it, but we have no idea what it was he was expected to do.

I thought I heard
“fast forward,”
but I don’t know what they are.

And don’t forget – no spoiler box needed – the next episode isn’t next week, it’s in two weeks. Next week is the Survivor finale.

Thanks so much! I had seen a snippet of one, but hadn’t caught enough of it and had missed the other.

Thanks again

Yes, It was the Fast Foward he couldn’t do. My mistake.

Help! I deleted the episode from the DVR before my husband could watch it. Is it rerun anywhere or available online or available On Demand or anything???

Actually, this is my first season. I did not point it out because I thought you made a mistake. I was hoping for an explanation of what one is.

Good God, does no one know how to row a rowboat? Is this one of those things, like shooting a bow-and-arrow, that I just assumed everyone knew the rudiments of, but apparently it’s really esoteric? Astounding how I learn more about my own countrymen from the Amazing Race than I learn about the rest of the world.

But anyway, time for the…

Taxi Assessment

Stuck in the Desert and Officially Detained - or, Philiminated with extreme prejudice.
Ari & Staella and Kate & Pat and Marianna & Julia and Lorena & Jason and Shana & Jennifer - Marking time in the trash heap of used Reality stars.
Azaria & Hendekea (down from “Cruisin’”) - One huge mistake this week, and that’s it for Azaria & Hendekea. They probably could have recovered from their chicken-with-its-head-cut-off airport strategy, but they had to compound their error by getting business-class tickets. A fundamental error, just at the point where they couldn’t afford to make an error. That’s too bad, because this team showed flashes of brilliance through the season, but the Race isn’t about occasional brilliance, it’s about not being the last team to step on the Mat. They were, and that’s that.

Flat Tire - or, not likely to get anywhere soon.
No one this week.

Stopping for Gas - or, not broken-down, exactly, but not a good sign.
Nicolas & Donald (holding steady) - Well, things are looking down for Nicolas & Donald. They did all right this episode, but with Ronald & Christina fired up and working well, Nicolas & Donald are the weakest remaining team. Gramps can be an asset, but his…methodicalness, shall we say, will be the downfall of this team yet. Particularly if his grandson lets him do all the manual labor. They got very, very lucky that Azaria & Hendekea screwed up.
Jennifer & Nathan (down from “Rapido!”) - This season’s most loathesome team makes a spectacle of themselves again. Although, to be fair, Jennifer & Nathan don’t hold a candle to some of the most horrible teams of season’s past. Which makes some sort of twisted sense, because pure loathesomeness is another thing Jennifer can’t win at, which must drive her up the wall. Anyway, this team is clearly falling apart, and it’s not going to get any better. They can’t find the clue box. They can’t row. They can’t find a taxi. They can’t effectively communicate. They can’t read, for God’s sake.

"Rapido! Por Favor?" - or, making meaningless ineffectual comments from the back seat, but in no immediate danger.
Ronald & Christina (up from “Stopping”) - What an upside-down episode. The team I had pegged as a shoo-in for final three is eliminated, and Ronald & Christina wind up with a first place. Ronald is still being a dick, but apparently either he’s learned to tone it down or Christina’s been gut-punching him the moment he starts acting out. I don’t expect this team to be a real contender, but it’s suddenly not unlikely that they will make it all the way to the final three.

In the Passing Lane - or, ahead of the pack, but not quite comfortably.
Rachel & TK (holding steady) - Nice work by this team. They got hosed with by the delay of their flight, but they didn’t get rattled, and would up sliding into the Pit Stop comfortably ahead of two other teams. Which, in the end, was all that counts.
Kynt & Vyxsin (holding steady) - A good airport strategy, getting tickets through a travel agent and not having to rush the purchase. I suspect their Detour choice was the slower of the two options, and their inability to find the Detour clue box is troubling, but with their lead over the three trailing teams, neither really mattered.

Cruisin’ with Earl - or, drivin’ on the shoulder, takin’ shortcuts, and generally kickin’ butt.
No one this week.

Next week: Nothing! Nothing at all! We get to wait two weeks to see who flubs up next.

(still talking about next ep)

From this link (the official CBS glossary): Two pre-determined legs have one FAST FORWARD, which allows the Team that completes the FAST FORWARD task first to proceed directly to the next PIT STOP without having to do any further tasks, including DETOURs or ROADBLOCKs, on the way. The trick is that only the first Team to find and complete the FAST FORWARD on the leg may use it; any subsequent Team that finds it will have wasted their time and must go back and complete all tasks.

Not sure why we’re spoilerboxing this stuff, but I’ll play along.

A Fast Forward is a task that teams can do to skip all the rest of the tasks on that particular leg and go straight to the Pit Stop. But only one team can do the Fast Forward. Any teams that arrive while the first team is doing the FF have the choice of waiting in case the team in front of them fails and then trying themselves, or going back and doing the regular leg. As soon as a team successfully completes the FF, it’s over and anyone still waiting has to go back and do the regular leg. A FF isn’t a guarantee of 1st Place on the leg. There have been some simply spectacular blunders and some just plain bad luck travel that have kept FF winners from being 1st (and in at least one case, from being anything but last (and 24 hours behind the rest of the pack…I’m lookin’ at you, Guidos…))

I feel like a terrible person watching the Race because I wish grievous bodily harm on Jen and Nate. Jen, mostly, but Nate’s no peach himself.

Nothing on Phil’s “Who’s your daddy now?” comment when Ron and Christina hit the mat?

We’re trying desperately to pretend it didn’t happen.

Hell, I’ve been doing that since the t-shirt first showed up…someone (I’m lookin’ at you, Ronald) doesn’t really understand the implications of that phrase, I think…

The sad thing about Ron & Christina is that the only thing Ron is going to remember about the whole Race is that Christina told him to face forward when rowing the boat. That’s going to be the sole AR story around the dinner table at family gatherings for the next 20 years.

And the schadenfreude of hot young blondes freaking out when thing aren’t handed to them on a platter is one of the best reasons for watching this show. Not that I don’t appreciate a hot young blonde, but seeing them panic when they don’t get their way is priceless.
