Last week: Airports and more airports, and we bid farewell to Teri and Ian and their paper underpants.
This week: TAR conspiracy theorists feverishly watch every frame in hopes of uncovering the producers’ fiendish plan for manipulating the leg and closing the 24-36 hour gap between first and last place. It’s a two-hour episode tonight so be sure to adjust your DVRs (or, for my fellow old-schoolers, VCRs).
Yes, it is a two hour episode. I wonder if it will be one of the ones where the teams think they’re coming into a Pit Stop and instead Phil tells them that they have to keep going.
For those of you playing the home game (such as me), here’s the teams’ departure times from the last pit stop:
Charla & Mirna - 4:20 AM
Oswald & Danny - 4:28 AM (shared taxi)
Uwchenna & Joyce - 7:55 AM
Candice & Dustin - 8:00 AM
Eric & Danielle - 3:15 PM
Joe & Bill - 7:01 PM
This means that Joe & Bill arrived at the pit stop almost three hours after C&M and O&D had left it!
No. It’s a normal Pit Stop. But the first two teams to finish the 7th leg of the race (the earlier hour) start the 8th leg of the race before the last couple of teams finish the 7th leg.
Well, now we have the answer to how the show handles the wide separation between the teams:Producer-arranged bunching. Dustin & Candice started out at 10:54 PM, the first bus is at 1 PM the next day.
Pre-arranged flights for the first bit of Leg 7
Legs 7 and 8 overlap (One assumes leg 6 & 7 did as well, but Phil never actually said so–or if he did, I wasn’t listening)
A Non-Elimination Leg
An Instersection
A Fast Forward
How much more excitement can one 2-hour episode contain?
2 teams finish tied for first, and Phil explains that he only has one prize, so they have to decide between themselves which team gets the prize.
Oswald and Danny, being the nice guys that they are, give the prize to Uchenna and Joyce, who are gracious in accepting.
And 24 inches of sausage sure sounds like an awful lot of sausage to eat to me–detour
How is it even possible for Bill & Joe to get to the Pit Stop 30 minutes before another team when they are intersected? And the Fast Forward is pointless. All it does is have the teams already in first place increase their lead. I really don’t like how these last 2 legs have been completely decided by the airports and unrelated to any kind of skill (or lack of) of the racers.
I think whatever that was was supposed to happen at the horse statue in Warsaw on the previous leg. (The Jan III name thing.) It felt like a task was cut before they got the clue to run to the mat.
The armor thing is in fact the Roadblock at the end of Leg 8.
And is really making me wish the reception on my TV was better–because I can’t see the armor hardly at all. And I’m petrified that I’m going to get a blue sceen at a key moment and miss something.
I’m a few minutes behind on my Tivo, but in the car it just looked like Mirna was going to answer the prayers of many viewers and stab Charla in the neck with any pointy object she could find.
Geez, why is it that taller Schmirna always makes shorter Schmirna do the hard tasks? I’m not a Schmirna fan (mostly because of taller Schmirna) but I felt quite bad for her wearing that armor. I also thought that was quite a nasy comment from one of the Guidos about her.
Still, all in all, I thought two good episodes tonight. Go Chas!
I have to say, I’d been liking Charla and Mirna better these past couple of episodes. And then they sat down to eat sausage, and the rest is history.
But the team I can’t wait to see eliminated is Eric and Danielle, because he seems to be a jerk and think he should be in charge of his team (as the more experienced racer) and she’s gotten upset to the point it’s not fun for me to listen to her several times.
