The Amazing Race 4/22: "Good Doing Business With You"

Last week: The drama intensified when my mother decided she wanted to have an argument just as the teams approached the Detour, yapping at me so I couldn’t hear the choices. Oh, and, um, there was a race and junk.

This week: Eric and Danielle are Marked For Philimination, forcing the nation into a horrible choice. Do we root for them or for Charla and Mirna when both teams are equally awful?

And isn’t there going to be an unlikely alliance over a yield?

The suspense… Will Charla and Myrna make it into the final three? Is it possible that Charla and Myrna could actually win the Amazing Race, thereby, after centuries of speculation, finally proving that if there is God, he cannot be both all powerful and all good?

The suspense…

I have said it before: I think Charla and Myna should be in every race.

I hope Eric and Danielle are sent packing this week. Charla and Mirna keep things exciting–you never know when they’ll surprise you and run a good leg.

It will be interesting to see if Oswald and Danny’s bad spending decisions (like paying for all those newspapers) will catch up to them.

The BQ’s are an obvious target for the next Yield, since Schmirna hates them and Eric and Danielle may seek retribution for being yielded themselves. But maybe that’s just what The Amazing Editors want us to think…

I’m not really a fan of either the Yield or the Fast Forward. They rarely ever make the Race more exciting–usually the opposite. I’d like to see this: At the first challenge–say, a Roadblock–after a bunching point, award the Fast Forward to the team that completes the Roadblock first. Then you’d have multiple teams competing for the Fast Forward, something we rarely see.

Something similar could be done for the Yield. You’d have to actually earn the right to Yield someone, or to not be Yielded yourself.

They show a distinctly female hand flipping the hour-glass in the previews. I have no clue is this means anything, but I just wanted to show I am watching.

I really do like this show now that I have seen a few episodes. I was strictly a Survivor guy, but TAR threads here were so compelling I took it up. I have to record it and watch it later because it conflicts with Slings and Arrows. My long suffering wife has three shows she likes to watch and S&A is one, so I defer to her.

It will be hard to stay out of this thread till I see the show. I am weak.

Also, you can stone me, but I am rooting for Schmirna, because everybody needs a fan. I mean Danny and Oswald are awsome, but it’s easy to root for awsome. I’ll root for the women I want to drown, I think it builds character. MMMV after this episode.

Considering the editors’ preference for somewhat misleading previews, as you’ve noted, perhaps the “surprising alliance” will be Danny & Oswald with the BQs. (Hey, did I say this in last week’s thread?)

You might want to consider buying lottery tickets.

Starting times on this leg:

Danny & Oswald — 3:41
Dustin & Kandice — 5:23 (1:42 back)
Charla & Mirna — 7:06 (1:43 back)
Eric & Danielle — 9:31 (2:25 back)

As for the “stunning alliance,” I think that was a bit overblown. Nevertheless, that was very good technique by the allying teams.

Jeebus Christmas, I thought I was going to die! I’ve never been as sad to watch someone coming into the Pit Stop as I was tonight. I almost cried.

Then that last-minute reprieve! Who knew the Race could be an emotional rollercoaster for the viewers?

I so hate Eric and Danielle. Seriously. Like, heat of a million suns with serious supernova issues hate.

That was a happier ending to the episode than I thought there might be. I was hopeful, though, after checking the CBS website and coming to the conclusion that there must be two episodes left after tonight.

I mention this week after week, but I dislike Eric. He makes even Mirna look good. At this point I would far rather the Schmirnas win than Eric and Danielle.

Was this the first leg on the Race this season where the teams didn’t have to fly anywhere?

Has there been a yield yet where the yieldees just accept it and don’t whine? I’ve been watching for the last four seasons and have yet to see it. Its’ not “unfair.” Its’ a part of the damn game and has been for a long time!

So Eric chooses to do the part of the task that involves sitting on a long, wide pole and bouncing. Hmmmm…

Good leg and good decision. I’d rather have somewhat poor Danny and Oswald around than fully funded Eric and Danielle.

Sure. Care to sponsor me?

Back-to-back NELs. Who would’ve thought of that? (Actually, we should have thought of it, when we discussed last week that there were three episodes, including tonight, still to air.)

And tonight we had our mandatory high-altitude drop. I have great respect for the racers who got out there and walked around the tower then jumped off it. There’s no way I’d do something like that.

Killer fatigue seems to be still taking its toll. Danny & Oswald are making big mistakes at critical times, Eric & Danielle are flustered, and everybody would like to bring down Dustin & Kandice. According to the preview (which we know are fully accurate  ) Danielle loses it next week on a ground-pounder Roadblock, implying that E&D get eliminated. Based on that, I’m guessing they place first, finally. After my success with calling the previewed twist for this episode, does anybody want to bet against me?

To be fair, in the first few seasons, there was a Fast Forward on every leg, and it did spice things up quite a bit. With only two along the way, it’s obvious that the first team to find it should take it, but if there’s one on every leg, then it starts getting more complicated. I could do without the Yield as well, or at least make it so you don’t know who Yielded you.

I’m still in the “Mirna is entertainingly insane” camp. And I have rarely been so relieved that a leg was a non-elim.

This was one for the record books…

Funniest scene - Mirna driving the mini car

Hottest scene - Dustin (or was it Kandice?) bouncing on the pole.

Hottest line - Dustin (or was it Kandice?) while watching the guy bouncing on the pole: “That looks like fun”

Biggest disappointment: Eric instead of Danielle bouncing on the pole.

Yea, my mind’s in the gutter, sorry.

Does Danielle ever stop chewing her cud?

Nope, I don’t think so. The team that gets Yielded takes it as some huge personal attack, and sits there planning how best to kill the team that Yielded them, while whining about how incredibly unfair it is that they were Yielded.

Never mind that if they’d gotten there first, they would have Yielded some other team without a second thought, or they would talk about how much ‘integrity’ and ‘honor’ they have, and have chosen not to Yield anyone else.

Kandice.

BQ’s on the tower…

Kandice (Paraphrasing): “Should I take off some of these clothes before I put this harness on?”

Tower jump attendant: “You can take off ALL your clothes if you want to…”
.

Leg 8 [Wiki link could contain spoilers near the end of the article] was contained entirely in Poland, with no domestic flight.

I agree with all of this. Based on the look on his face, I have a feeling the cluemaster was tempted to send them back a third time just to take in the show again.
