The Amazing Race 8/24

Even paranoids have enemies, or even a stopped clock is right twice a day?

Hey, no prob. Remember, it’s possible to view what happened in a way that makes Colin look worse. It’s pretty sad when you treat other teams better than you treat your partner.

Well, sure. Crazy people often have The Sight.

I mean, yes, he stopped , but I don’t know if the Twins are completely wrong. I just wonder if they would’ve stopped if they hadn’t had trouble before and maybe felt they owed someone to stop.

Couple of unmentioned things so far:

  • The twins seemed to have a hella lot of money when they handed it over, realtively speaking.

  • The cabbie that Chip shorted di not lok at all pleased about it. I like Chip and Kim but that was wrong. Basically that cabbie paid the other cabbie’s tip back in Tanzania in Tanzania.

  • Nicole was upset that a Tanzanian cabbie wouldn’t take Kenyan money? Try paying a NYC cabbie in Canadian money next time, see how that works.

Colin’s behaviour at the police station, bad. Colin’s attitude toward Christie, Horrible. Christie’s compliance, very sad.

Are there rules in TAR about contestants breaking laws? Because here’s how I wished the whole Colin deal had gone down:

  1. Colin refuses to pay the cab driver.
  2. Cab driver gives up in frustration, but doesn’t summon police.
  3. Colin goes on his merry way thinking he’d “won” his little battle.
  4. Colin gets to the Pit Stop first and has Phil tell him that stiffing the cabbie has gotten him disqualified.
  5. Phil says “So sorry…not only are you out of the race, but you also forfeit the Caribbean vacation. Asshole.”

We can dream, right?

Yes. Although my dream involves more cattle prods and sharp pointy sticks to Colin’s alleged “genitals.”

  1. Phil says, “But Christie can still go on the Carribean vacation and take someone really nice with her.”

OK, sign me up for the Rockle fan club now. I was teetering on the edge, but prescient made me tingle in all the right places.

What was anyone doing with Kenyan money? They were only there long enough to change planes.

I do hope Colin’s asswipery is largely the result of editing. I’m ashamed to think he’s a fellow human being after that.

Best line of the entire series so far, at the police station:
Colin: “Do you speak any English”"
Officer: “Yes. Do you speak any Swahili?”
Beautiful, sir, just beautiful.

Betcha the crew made up the shortage to the Dubai cabbie, off-camera.

Gonna be fun watching the Blondies whore up their taxi fares next week.

Indeed it was, and delivered perfectly!

This was the best line. I almost rolled over laughing. I don’t even think Colin got that lil quip. Oh how I wish he would have been jailed.

I also like how the “Boss” was trying to explain to Colin, “You realize I am a police officeer and this is a police station, don’t you?” I mean he was far more patient then I think he had to be and Colin’s attitude seemed to me to be totally condescending, treating them like Mall cops or something.

It’s a shame Charla and Mirna were eliminated last week. I wonder what Mirna would have told Colin when he got back to the airport. I’m glad the Bowling Moms had the nerve to say something to him. I wish the other teams had. Where was Chip? He certainly didn’t mind telling Nicole what he thought.

Next season, they should have the Ugly American card aka the Colinator. Any team who acts like an Ugly American will receive this card for hideous behavior. The recepient of the card will forfeit any special trips they won along the way and will not be eligible for any future reward trips and will have to give up all their money for the next leg.

I was much more upset with Colin for his treatment of Christie, than with his otherwise totally obnoxious behavior. In his defense, his cab driver was an absolute jerk also (and nobody has mentioned this yet). Any reasonable person would have at least offered to refund some of the money, and make a small compromise, in that situation.

How so?

I’m blushing, really - it isn’t even my birthday or anything! I am glad to see that all those student loans I am repaying are not for naught.

I’m with Gangster Octopus on this one - how so? I don’t think the cab driver gave a wet rat’s ass where Colin finished in the “order.” It’s not the taxi driver’s job. If Colin wanted results, he should have said that he would pay extra for faster service. You don’t short someone on a pre-arranged price just because you feel like you got screwed. That’s like stiffing your waitress because the restaurant is out of tuna that day, and tuna is your favorite. As the Rolling Stones say: “You can’t always get what you want.”

And seriously, if Colin was so damned worried about his “safety,” why didn’t he check out the condition of the cab before he got in it? Otherwise, the cabbie did exactly what was required of him - he got Colin & Christie to the airport. Period. (And it seems all the cab drivers did it for less than they wanted for the trip, too, since the first cab driver originally asked for $150. If Chip & Kim had paid that, that’s what every cab driver would have gotten.) Colin is a whiny little pussy who needs to grow the fuck up and learn to deal.

I can understand Colon being angry, but his behavior was absolutely unforgivable. First of all, he never made a deal with the cab driver, and he should have noticed that they were driving on a donut tire before he ever got in the car, as it wouldn’t been riding straight.

But most importantly, his ridiculous offer of “fifty or nothing” was totally out of line. The driver, was out two, perhaps four hours, and fuel for both the trip, and probably the return if he can’t get a fare. Colon absolutely owed him enough cover the drivers expenses. He should have offer $75.00, and I’ll bet the driver would have taken it.

In addition, his quip to compliant Christie of “You should support me, even when I’m wrong”, followed up by her apology was appalling. If my husband ever said anything like that to me, first you would have hear a stream of profanity, and then I probably would have left until he apologized.

And how about when he snapped at her while he was telling his version of the story. Oh my, that was just ridiculous.

Another favorite moment:

As C&C were stalking out of the police station, the gate guard is smirking and laughing to himself. Colin, master of diplomacy that he is, says, “Yeah, laugh it up. Real funny!”

What a numbnut.

A symptom of general ugly-Americantude. There’s two kinds of currency: $US, and foreign. All of the latter must be interchangeable, right?

I could be wrong, but it appears to me that all the Dopers that detected Colin’s jerkitude before this episode have been women. After this episode, it’s obvious even to us denser males that he’s a jackass. So what’s the scoop? How does one detect a creep?
