The Amazing Race 8/3

Yup, but a casino up here in MN is hosting auditions for AR7 this month.

Excellent! I was fearing that AR5 was going to be a swan song. Does anyone have facts about how this season is doing in the ratings?

For people who want to know non-elimination legs before hand here is something I’ve noticed over the years…

(but not a real ‘i know something from the future’ spoiler)

When the first team gets to the last clue, they read it out loud. Usually it’s "the last team to arrive will be eliminated. But sometimes it’s “may be eliminated”, like tonight.

What I always thought would be a cool team was two people who had never met, but never argue. Each person states a gut instinct, and if they differ theyrock-paper-scissors for it. The “leave it up to fate and just have fun team”

Since it started this season, it’s been in the Top 10 Nielsens (I believe it’s every week but one), as well as being one of the only shows in the top 10 that isn’t a rerun.

Like maybe a Reeder / december team? :stuck_out_tongue: Seriously, though, I’d totally do this. Just say the word. I’m slow, but spunky, and also the queen of cheap, and not afraid to show my boobs in lieu of paying cab fare. My husband won’t like it, but a quarter of a million dollars and he’d get over it fast.

NBC had a very short-lived reality TV show that was a cheap version of AR except with strangers. It had the misfortune of having to compete with 9/11 coverage, but it was dumb anyway. The contestants were basically dropped in the middle of nowhere, with no idea where they were, and no money. Ugly Americans begging for money in third-world countries is not entertaining.

If I recall that was a show called “Lost” and one big problem was that they didn’t really have assigned tasks or bunching. One of the contestants got a huge lead early and basically there was no suspense in the show.

While this was true in previous seasons, this season I noticed that they say this on every leg. I’ve been listening carefully, trying to pick up whether a Pit Stop is non-elimination, but the wording has been consistent.

I disagree, Term Est. Last week they definitely said “the last team to arrive will be eliminated” and this week they said “may be eliminated”. Someone also may have read the card wrong, though (coughMirnacough).

I’ll check my tapes when I get home.

In previous seasons it seemed to me that the clue card said “the last team will be eliminated” during an elimination round, and on a non-elim round said nothing. Seems to me this season it always reads “the last team MAY be eliminated”.

They can’t. In an earlier season, we saw that the green FF envelope remains with a note saying something like “There was a FF here, but it’s been used”.

Does anyone know for sure if YEILDs can only be used on people behind you? It would be mega-bogus if you can yeild someone ahead of you.

Couple 'o comments:

Pizza Bros–geez. These must be the most bitter people alive. They’re in freaking St. Petersburg…an utterly beautiful city. And all they can come up with is “Everyone’s miserable”. Morons. Also, “Mirna and Schmerna”? It’s really stupid and it makes you sound stupid(er). Clever plays on words (even names) can be fun. “Team Blue Lagoon” was ‘laugh out loud’ funny. This isn’t that.

Chip–Dood. Helping is good…great attitude…but let’s not overdo it. (On th’ other hand, what a good guy)

Brandon–Creep. Stoopid creep. Think, just for a sec. If you’d waited for 1 minute, you could have let Chip get to the platform first…it would have set you a minute behind him. You could have “repaid” him for helping you AND you’d have shown him that you can be trusted. Now? You’ve alienated another person for a meaningless 1 minute lead. Really. UTTERLY meaningless. Nichole–Good for you with the “Stop treating me like a child”. Next time end the sentence by kicking him in the nuts and you’ll be in my favs category.

Mirna and Charla–Charla has a great attitude and her enthusiasm is infectious. Taking a second or two here and there to “smell the roses” is smart: when will you ever be back? Mirna–you stoopid bimbo, is there anything you’re not “scared” of? You were scared of carrying the beef, of the calves, of the hang-gliding, of the caviar, of the chocolate and now of the cave. I “allow” each contestant one or two phobias during the show. She’s got one every show. Bleh.

Colin and Christie-These folks are smart. Ok, the “prodigal son” thing was wrong, but y’know, I’m Jewish and until I started hanging out here, I’d never heard the story…Nonetheless, good for them for playing it smart: and very good for them for being smart enough to grab the FF–there’s only two after all, and this way it couldn’t be used to cut their lead.

Bowling Moms, Boring Twins–one o’ you is doomed.

Fenris

Regarding that spoiler:
Actually, they show the contestants reading the final clue which contains the phrase “may be eliminated”. I think it always says that. However, they will then cut to Phil who will say something like the following:

"Players must now make their way to the Pit Stop, the Sphinx, This amazing monument is a symbol of all things Egyptian, as well as being a huge freakin’ cat statue. The last team here will be eliminated.

If that last sentence is not in Phil’s bit, it’s a non-elimination round.
About AR6, I don’t know if you guys checked the fall schedules yet but AR6 is going to start mid-September. That’s right, they’re going straight from the ending of 5 right into 6.

Oh, and does anyone have a link to contestant sign up info for AR7 (or even 8)? I think I would want to race with one of my brothers rather than be one of the “Random Internet Strangers” teams but I’ll keep an eye out for my competition here.

Are you sure? I’m confused. If this is true, then why in past seasons were there multiple teams attempting the Fast Forward?

They don’t put it at the fast forward beginning, but at the the FF end. After the team has followed the instructions to do do the FF they go to get the next clue(which directs them to the pit stop) but instead get the ‘sorry suckers you did this for nothing cause someone beat you here, now go back and go the normal way’ message.

Yes, they said specifically when explaining the concept that they can only use a yield on teams behind them.

I agree with you Wolfman, but I don’t believe that’s what Fenris is claiming. If I understand his post correctly, he’s saying that the other teams didn’t even consider using the Fast Forward because they knew it had already been used.

Yup.

I think that when a team decides to attempt the FF, they take the clue card, leaving behind the “Sorry Suckers” note. I’m not sure if multiple teams can do try the FF at once–I don’t think they can (at least not in the seasons I’ve seen)

I know that once a team completes the FF, all other teams get the “Sorry Suckers” note.

I’m still confused. The “sorry suckers” note is attached when a team completes the Fast Forward? (I could swear I’ve seen multiple teams trying for the Fast Forward at the same time in previous seasons.)

Anyway, are you saying that by the time the other teams arrived at the Fast Forward, C&C had already completed the Fast Forward?

But you also say:

I’m not trying to be argumentative. I’m simply trying to get to the bottom of why the other teams didn’t even consider trying to attempt the Fast Forward.
