The Amazing Race 9.14

Hello, lorene. Yeah, I went quiet for a bit; no reason, just didn’t have much to say I guess.

I’d like to be a contestant, and the way I’ve been travelling this year I almost feel like I am. I should change my location field, I’ll be living in Nuremberg for the next three months.

BY the way, did anyone else feel that the Roadblock clue was somewhat misleading? That task wasn’t necessarily better for someone with strong arms and legs as it was for someone who is weight-proportionate and nimble. I think Chip had a hard time climbing the ladder not just because he is afraid of heights but also because he’s a big guy and his weight made the ladder flop all over the place. And Brandon seemed to be having trouble getting what looked like big clown feet onto the actual rungs of the ladder.
Colin, being a scrappy kinda guy, of course had no problem. :wally

Heh. I just remembered another great line, from someone’s taxi driver.

“The law says I can’t go over 100 here. The only choice we have is to break the law.”

This was the best episode yet this season. Everyone was racing all-out, no one made any mistakes, the competition was essentially neck-and-neck the whole leg, and the bus/cab scramble back to Manila at the end ensured that there would be some uncertainty as the final order (I’m amazed that all three teams independently thought to jump off the bus – great racing). It’ll be interesting to see what the starting times are next week; I imagine they’ll be bunched pretty close together.

In principle I agree with Fenris about the Yield. I’d rather see teams race faster than see teams slow the competition. Plus, you know Colin will be gunning for Chip & Kim next episode, so look for the Yield to be used as revenge rather than smart racing. In this episode, however, we did get to see a Colin meltdown as a direct result of the Yield. [Consider – if C&C hadn’t been Yielded, they would have arrived at the Detour in time to see the other teams leading the ox.] I thought this was worthwhile not so much because I think Colin’s a dick (which I do think), but because it exposes his fundamental flaw – he’s a great racer when he’s ahead, but he implodes when he’s not winning.

Pure speculation: Previews show mountain biking on snow. I’m guessing this is in Alaska or Canada (already went to Russia, Japan’s a pain to film in, I hear). Furthermore, I’m guessing that this is on the second leg next week, so that means Brandon and Nichole don’t get eliminated on the first leg. C&C and C&K are the strongest two teams, so I doubt it’ll be either of them (unless the Yield leaves C&K far behind) – I’m thinking it’s the Mom’s turn to go.

I was wondering if they were going to get dinged for not doing the Detour correctly. Shouldn’t Christie have been helping him more? All she did was stand there and yell at him, and then she got in the mudpit and found the Clue by dragging her feet. The directions said for both team members to work the Ox, and dredge up the clue with the plow.

That look in Colin’s eyes at the end, when Christie was talking to the camera (after the check-in) was downright SCARY. He’s just evil.

I could have done the climbing-the-ladder thing, and the walking-across-the-girders thing, but I could never have jumped off. The Clue Girl would have had to have pushed me off. Weird, huh?

You’re a better woman than I am, then. Because you’d have needed to give me a Xanax and a million bucks to get me anywhere near that ladder. I’d be Kim, sitting in the boat, yelling “Go baby! You can do it! Rah rah rah!” But no WAY am I crossing that girder.

Was that the task; climb a rope ladder, carefully walk across a beam, and then jump off anyway?

Well, technically, yeah, although you had to cross the girder to get the clue from the lovely Clue Girl.

Amen, sister. I was cringing like a little bitch just watching it. I like to think I could do it for a million bucks, but in all honesty, I have to call one of my friends over to hang pictures for me.

Hey, did anybody else notice that Chip was wearing a t-shirt from Marshall and Lance’s restaurant? One of those random things that has nothing to do with anything else.

Colin, Colin, Colin. sigh Animals of any sort really don’t respond well to the yelling and the screaming. I’m disappointed the ox/buffalo/bull/indeterminate breed of ungulate didn’t trample him. And when Colin decided to yell “I hate you”, was he talking to Christie, or the ox? I’m still not certain. And Christie … whoa. Until last night, I had thought she was just a patient (if misguided) woman who put up with Colin’s shit. Either what Colin has is catching, or Christie’s been playing it supercool all this time.

Big kudos to Blonde Mom (I can’t remember their names–I have two aunts named Karen and Linda, and this makes it impossible for me to remember which is which, for some reason) for making it up the ladder. I think her major motivation must have been the names her kids would call her if she punked out.

Major props to Chip and Kim for taking the blame on the Yield. It was everyone’s idea, but now C&K will have to beware the Revenge of Colin. I have a huge problem with Colin’s claims that it’s “unfair”. Like it or not, it’s part of the game. It’s right there in the rules. Phil explained it, it must be so. It’s totally fair. Sure, it’s not terribly nice, and I still don’t know how I feel about it being part of the game, but it’s definitely fair. Suck it up and deal, Colin. Being a good sport isn’t only for those in first place.

I’m betting he’s an only child.

They’re coming to Calgary. In the background you can see a distinct ski jump tower that’s located in Calgary Olympic Park.

Damn the non-elimination legs! I was so happy there, for a little while.

One of my favorite lines was (and I paraphrase) Colin telling Christie, “I’m missing a bolt so you have to help me find it.” This while she’s flat on her back trying to attach whatever that was to the jeepney. I’ve probably said enough about Colin in previous threads, so I won’t go any further. If they do get eliminated, I will miss their particular brand of crazy, though. I hope someday I catch them on an episode of Cops.

Well, I can see now what the poster meant last week saying that Christie was an evil beauty show contestant. “It’s OK - Just run them over!”??? Holy crap but this isn’t a woman that I want near me when I’m wearing full body armor, much less an evening gown! I now pronounce you Psycho and Psychette.

And it’s not “cheating” to use the yield. IT’S. A. GAME. If you use the tools given you to play the game IT’S. NOT. CHEATING. Was it nice? No, but you aren’t nice people. Whiners.

(Please excuse my grumpyness. Hurricanes piss me off as much as Colon.)

The sounds at my house at the end of the show last night:

Us: YES! YEAH!
Phil: However…
Us: NO!
Baby: crying

Draelin: IIRC Linda is the blonde, Karen is the brunette. I thought she did really well with the girder thing, no way my Mom would’ve gone up there and I might have had problems jumping myself. But then I have jumped from an 80ft tower once, and that was over land not water so I might not have had as big a problem.

Raygun: If you’re right, that’s pretty cool.

I am SO glad I stayed up to watch, I almost went to sleep as it didn’t start until 10 last night (it’s been playing at 9 up till now) but I really wanted to see. I can’t wait to see next week! Then I’ll go into withdrawl until it’s time for 6.

With Christie’s “It’s okay, run then over,” comment, I could say something like that as a joke but considdering her attitude right then it didn’t come across as a joking comment. It was creepy.

And Colin’s “I hate hate you” had a little jump cut right before it that I noticed so I’m inclined to say he was saying it to the ox. (Ha ha ha! Ox! Ox! Ox!)

I could see this leg as breaking Colin and Christie. They’ve been coasting on their lead for a while where even airport bunching couldn’t help because they already had gotten there first and gotten the best tickets. If C&C don’t remember that the best revenge is playing well (and they don’t seem the type to think that way) then they could tear themselves down trying to catch up.

I like how C&C think it’s “cheating” use the Yield, but it isn’t “cheating” to lie to the Singapore Airlines lady and tell her that you are having an “emergency” and need to get on the 4:55 flight right this very second. And I wonder, also, how come it is “cheating” to use the Yield but not the Fast Forward? Maybe because … oh, I don’t know … because they didn’t get to use it on someone else first?

Seriously. If you’re going to complain about how the rules of the freakin’ game you signed up to play aren’t fair, at least be consistent, will you? Sociopathic psychotic little whiners (with small … oh, never mind).

Definitely the hardest laugh for me was Christie, after Colin’s hissy fit, instantly stepping on the clue the moment she sets foot in the rice paddy.

For some reason, I completely expected non-elimination. I just assumed that we would have a two hour finale next week with an elimination in the middle.

I can’t believe C&C’s take on the Yield – that it was somehow underhanded & backstabbing. I kept thinking of the line from The Godfather, where Sonny tells Michael that “you’re takin’ this very personally”.

I take that back. I just watched the Insider videos which include a full two and a half additional minutes of Colin and Christie crumbling in the face adversity and he did say “I hate you” to Christie. Those two are seriously screwed up…

Oh, and for additional entertainment they also complain about Chip and Kim actually (gasp) racing instead of helping them out. I know, it’s a shocker that someone on the Amazing Race might actual race but that’s the acusation…

If it helps any, TAR6 begins sometime in October or early November, instead of next summer…

I’d agree that the line of the night was Christie’s “Just run them over…”

Made for each other, I tell ya.

I can’t believe I’m going to be watching next week’s show with 400 other people. Oh, and I’m hoping I get the chance to tell Miss Mirna just what I think of her…

HEY! No fair making me giggle! Here I am all righteously indignant and now I’m thinking about some psychotic’s small oddly-colored member. :stuck_out_tongue:
And if this storm hits Montgomery as bad as they say it will, and we lose power for more than a week, I would really appreciate someone taping the show next week for me. Hopefully it won’t be that bad here.
