I thought at first that Colin and Christie were going to use the Yield to their advantage by watching what each team was doing to put their jeepney together, but perhaps Colin was more concerned with giving Chip the Eye of Death. Based on what I remember of other Yield sites in Calcutta and New Zealand (I can’t recall right now where we saw other ones), they were sort of in the middle of nowhere. This one was right in the middle of the action, pretty much, giving the Yielded team an opportunity to observe what they were going to have to do.
I like your analysis of the mental aspects of the Yield, Atrael.
I knew going into this episode that it was non-elimination (because having a team enter the final show with no cash would be blatantly stupid), but I still did many happy dances when C&C got stuck in Singapore, and again when they were forced to yield, and again when they couldn’t plow a field, and again when they came in last. Happy happy joy joy!
As for next week, I speculate that there are TWO stops in Canada.
In the preview, that mountain peak behind the team trying to bike in the snow looked exactly like the Lions near Vancouver. And the rope climbing in the water looked a helluva lot like the Sunshine coast-- so I’m thinking that the teams fly into Vancouver International Airport, then have to do a Sea to Sky detour-- either going up the mountain, or heading to the water. And the nice weather Vancouverites enjoy at sea level in January could really screw over a team that thought it was safe to go up a mountain.
Also, earlier this year I read reports that several teams, including a couple of ‘middle-aged people’ were spotted in Banff, Alberta on the ski slopes, possibly doing something that involved a teepee. Apparently two teams were on a bus, and one team jumped off and grabbed a cab
I was wondering if the show would be more interesting if sometimes the[Roadblock?] events where only one person can perform the task is changed so that the other person had to perform a second task, instead of standing uselessly on the sideline.
For example, both Chip and Kim have to do different tasks, but may choose to have Kim do the easier of the two tasks. In the last episode, maybe Kim has to walk girders, while Chip has to climb.
This way, one team member might finish first and cheer the second, but nobody would be completely useless.
I think it would be better if they had to take turns doing the Roadblocks. Chip’s done all of them, I think (or all but one), and I think Charla did nearly all of them.
I also think Colin’s done most of them. I think it would better if they were forced to take turns and alternate doing the Roadblocks.
That’s interesting… how did my post get ahead of TheControvert’s? I quoted him or her, but now my post is before that one. Just a glitch from the upgrade, I guess?
Same thing happened to me in a prior thread. A post I made in the afternoon mingled with the morning discussion. The Controvert’s post is timestamped 8:33 PM while yours is stamped 4:30 PM. He’s posting from the future!
So, the question for the contestants at next year’s Miss Texas pageant must be:
“If your boyfriend, who you’re afraid of, is leading a water buffalo around a paddy in south Asia, and he tells you 'I hate you!” do you:
A) Jump in and help him lead the animal around?
B) Let him deal with his issues on his own?
C) Wait until he screams loudly enough at you, jump into the mire and then, harass the Jeepny driver once you get the clue?
D) Listen to your man. Drop to your knees and pray to God?
E) Think to yourself, "I'm Miss Texas. I don't deserve this shit! I can make more money openin' up a new WalMart in Van Horne."
We can dream, but sadly, dreams never, ever come true.
