East coast checking in here:
Oh, thank you, Lord!
I got teary-eyed at the end!!
I missed a bit out of the middle, how did Chip and Kim successfully get on the earlier flight to Dallas? When I had to get up, they were in last place leaving the luge. Why were Colin and Brandon walking around with boxes at the airport?
yay!!!
Yeah, too bad that blew up in his face.
YAY!
We laughed, we cried, we sat at the edge of the couch, we ate thai food, and then we cheered. That soooooo rocked!!!
Let’s start the next one!
Best Line: During the snowbiking, Brandon says “Nikki, just give me some peace!”
To which, DeHusband replies, “Dude. I think maybe she’s given you enough pieces.”
I wish the Moms did better, but really they did amazing. Also, best action of actually following the rules goes to Homeland Security! (They should have mailed the stuff.)
C+C almost managed their anger. Almost.
Tossled Hair Jesus Boy and Twig almost had an original thought. Almost.
But Chip and Kim! The pair who actually did the tourist thing! Yippee!!
I cried at the end. I’m such a sap.
And now! We do the Dance of Joy!!
The other team’s earlier flight was delayed 2 hours. Chip & Kim found out about it while the other’s were sleeping. Colin and Brandon decided to check their excess luggage so they wouldn’t have to haul it around, which turned out to be their downfall because they had to stay with the airline their luggage was on.
Glory: Colin & Christie and Brandon & Nicole checked in first on flight 848. Being last had one advantage: because of fog, that flight was delayed. Kim found out, went, “Hmmmm… I wonder if the other teams know their flight has a two hour delay?” And reserved seats on the next-best flight. She and Chip snuck out and caught the full connecting flight to Denver and then Dallas. Colin and Christie and Brandon and Nicole found out about the delay at the airport the next morning yet managed to get on the same flight to Denver as Chip and Kim. Only Colin and Christie managed to get on a flight that put them in Dallas 10 minutes behind Chip and Kim. Colin and Christie had the admittedly brilliant idea of shipping their extra luggage, which is why they were carrying boxes (not to mention the cabbie idea). Since Brandon and Nicole didn’t think of that, their extra luggage forced them tp abide by FAA rules to stay on a later connecting flight to Dallas than Colin and Christie.
GREAT episode! My heart was pounding!
I was actually rooting for Colin & Christie because they were really the best racers. It kind of sucks that the last leg was pretty much determined by the delayed flight which allowed Chip and Kim to win because of the fact that they SUCKED BIG TIME on the physical challenges in Canada and got to the airport much later than the others. But I guess that’s the game.
I was shocked to find out that they were coming to the Fort Worth Stockyards, about ten minutes from my house! Too cool, but I wish they’d shown a little more of the stockyards area than just the maze. (Some of my favorite bars and restaurants are down there)
I get way too worked up about these things. I finished watching about ten minutes ago and I swear my heart rate isn’t back to normal yet. Whew!
And a hearty “Yay!” for C&K and an even more hearty, “Ha HAHAHAAAA!” for C&C. HAAAAAAAA!
Wait. Who was shipping their baggage and who was checking it? You can ship your stuff in a box like any other UPS freight (if you go to the right counter and you’re willing to wait a few days for it), but you have to travel with your checked baggage. Who did which? It looks like the mistake was checking the baggage before the last leg of the trip. If they had just checked it at the final flight, they could have abandoned it on the baggage carousel–they wouldn’t have had to carry it around in Dallas.
C&C and B&N both checked those boxes. They both had to connect on American because of it. They both came into Dallas on the same plane.
C&C got so far ahead because they had a driver waiting for them who wasn’t afraid to put on a little speed (or to drive on the shoulder). I know I wasn’t the only person who was waiting hopefully for their cab to be pulled over for the idiotic shoulder trick…
Ahead of Brandon & Nicole, that is.
And can I just mention Brandon’s little inspirational speech on Lookout Mountain? “Just imagine Jesus is up there with his arms open, running down to meet you…” Way to reduce your Savior to a bad romantic movie cliche, GodBoy…
So, how many other people here are a familiar with DIA, and were hoping for an extra kick in the nuts for Colin and Brandon when they kept arguing with the counter dudes rather than run to the American Airlines flight?
I kept hoping that TSA agents would ask C&C and B&N to step to the side for a little “discussion”.
Hehe that too, I was talking about occasional 20 minute wait for a train.
Yay! Team Blue Lagoon embarassed themselves, Chip and Kim won by smarts and hard racing and Colin and Christie ran another good tough leg–note that no-one else ever seemed to hear of the strategy “always turn left”? And reserving the cab in advance was SMART.
But then…Team Blue Lagoon might not have…it comes from mythology after all. Or Dungeons and Dragons.
Team Blue Lagoon showed themselves to be just as dumb as a box of bricks. In addition to sniping at the ticket counter (“YOU’RE SAYING THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO FOR ME?!”) while B&N had already taken off–note to Wolfman–C&C only quibbled, then took off. It was B&N who were having the hissy-fit. And yeah, DIA security guards are notoriously unfriendly (actually that should be ‘were’. ISTR that we got a new security company in charge)–I was hoping Blue Lagoon boy would get dragged to a back room somewhere. And c’mon. The trains at DIA are neeever late. Ever. Really. Honest. Mayor Webb said so!
The best one part of the episode though? Bradon’s “Dur…what do ‘vert-i-go’ mean?” Damn, I’m glad they didn’t win.
So, in the final tally, IMO the nicest team won and the most competent came in second. I agree with the earlier poster: Best. Episode. EVER!
(Plus I loved the maze–for once the last leg didn’t come down to a pure foot or taxi race. Good job, Phil and Co.)
The best part was the cut to the clouds and the angelic music after he said that. That gave me a good laugh, best edit since the Evil Goat.
D
Wow! Best finale EVER!! Way to go, Chip & Kim!!! They are the first team ever that I’m glad to see win.
Gotta admit, Colin reserving that Andretti Cab was the smartest move of the Race. Too bad it didn’t pay off. Oh, wait…make that, THANK GOD it didn’t pay off! (I actually shouted, “Thank you Al-Queda!” when the trailing teams were informed of FAA rules. Can only imagine what the neighbors thought…)
The local news had a piece on TAR5 tonight and said that the 6th season “is being raced as we speak,” so no wonder it got delayed. I’m actually glad the next race isn’t being shown right away, need a couple weeks for this one to sink in.
He’s yelling about imaging they are running to the open arms of Jesus and then it cuts to Collin yelling, “One million dollars!!” My wife and I laughed for the rest of the night over that. One’s on a religious quest and one is simply after the money.
