I have a question. And it is an honest, innocent question that I hope is not percieved as bitchy because certainly I have no idea what’s going on in this situation, but it’s a thing that’s plagued me since I’ve been here.
Why did Anthracite need to announce that she was going on sabbatical to the boards or the mods or anything? Why not…just stop posting.
When I go on vacation in September, I’ll just not be posting for a week. I don’t suppose I’ll be getting an ‘on vacation’ message under my name.
I’ve noticed that several people have done this, “asking for their posting privileges to be removed for a while”. Why? Why not just stay away from the board?
I don’t get it.

While I don’t understand all the fuss, I am happy that Anthricites’ name no longer has “BANNED” under it. Like I said in Dr. S.s’ now closed thread, It equated her with the likes of JDT and other well known, not respected trolls.

jarbaby, I think that’s a good question. I don’t understand it myself.
I can take your question at face value, jarbabyj. It would seem that something funny’s going on in Anth’s life and it spills over here. I don’t know what, and I’m loathe to speculate. Perhaps someone is misrepresenting her or impersonating her or has acquired her confident touch with coal dust. The staff here think it is sufficient to do what they done, and they’ve clammed up. Now Anth is a well regarded poster, but let’s face it, they wouldn’t do so without serious cause. When it’s all blown over, she won’t have a funny title below her name. And that’s it.
When it’s over, she may or may not (I’m guessing not) want to tell us about it. She’s said what she has because a large number of people are concerned. Lurkers have posted, wanting to know what’s going on. Crowds are gathering with pitchforks. Anth has posted to say this is unneccessary.
As for other people getting themselves removed, self-control is an issue. If I got too wound up about something here, I might ask that I be stopped from posting because I know I’d be tempted to post to the thread that wound me up. I might be able to predict that I wouldn’t be able to help myself (cf. Ulysses and the incident with the sirens).
Apparently, somebody with willpower. 
Speaking for myself, I get too obsessive about posting to be able to quit without the help of not being able to do it anyway. Much like my relationship with food and, well, any of my other vices. I am happy for you that you are better adjusted than I. 
I am going to miss the Coal Babe. Here’s hoping that things work out IRL.

I guess that if I was having issues with people on the boards, off the boards and everywhere on the web, I would just disappear rather than say “i’m leaving”, which gives those people more fuel.
But like I said, I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, so I’m just throwing stuff out there.

Yes, I am sure it has been for Una and the moderators. It’s also brought a lot more of the unnecessary drama to the board, more work for the moderators, and by the sounds of it created a lot of e-mails flying back and forth. More accusations of Gestapo Moderators and Drama Queen Una - which JFTR, I don’t agree with either description.
I’m with jarbaby, wouldn’t it have been so much simpler to just stop posting for a while without the announcement (the BANNED label)? If willpower or someone with access to her account were an issue, could posting privileges just have been suspended without no one being the wiser except those people she chooses to tell?
Life would have been so much simpler, wouldn’t it have been?

As has been said before, we don’t know all the facts. Quite frankly it’s truly none of our business.

jarbabyj, another explanation that I can come up with off the top of my head (and please note that I have no reason to believe that this has anything to do with Anthracite’s situation - it’s strictly hypothetical), would be if the powers-that-be in someone’s workplace noticed that one was spending too much time posting to the boards. Having “banned” or the like under your name might be a demonstration to those powers that you were actively working to correct the situation and had turned over a new leaf.
Anyway, I really stopped in just to bid Anthracite farewell for now.

Woo! Look at Una All my best, babe. I don’t know exactly what’s going on with you, but it’d be interesting to compare notes and see if whomever is harassing you is the same person who was harassing me. If so, they have damn fine taste in women.
