The Apprentice -- 4/1

By that logic, Troy should have never been on the show in the first place, unless nobody else had a college degree either. Otherwise,it’s not a level playing field, and he wouldn’t have been in contention from the beginning.

Also, if what they said repeatedly was true and the couple came in at “2 minutes before the deadline” then this deal was done AFTER the deadline! Hell, it would have taken them ten minutes just to get all the forms in order. Something definitely smells fishy about this.

Finally, any speculation on what Assorama will be doing? My guess is she’ll be filing a harrassment charge against Kwame or someone else(just because it fits her M.O.).

I still think Kwame is ideal for a company president. Company presidents don’t need to be innovative. They need to get things done that the CEO wants done. As for Amy, I wonder why Donald is not concerned about her relationship with Nick. If I were he, I’d wonder whether she might not be prone to create scandal in the company by hooking up with a fellow executive.

No. When you get right down to it, people are jumping on the “Yeahh, Troy was never really right for it” bandwagon now that he’s been eliminated. No one seems to be remembering how dynamically the guy performed in the weeks prior.

Last night’s episode’s highlighted a fundamental flaw in Trump’s “screening” process: he sees very little of how the contestants actually perform on the street. He relies on capsule summaries from two assistants, who undoubtedly bring their own biases and prejudices to their recommendations, and who I can’t believe sit down with him and go person-by-person each week on how everybody performed. Then he lets someone go, basically, by measuring how well the person can sling bullshit in the boardroom, be it defending their actions or pointing out another person’s weakness.

I submit that if Trump had actually seen Troy in action on any two tasks of the prior weeks, he never would have sent him packing. Because even when Troy fucked up, the moves he made to get to that point were never less than impressive. Was the guy rough? Sure. But his innovation and ability far outweighed any finer points he may have lacked.

Amy is , and I don’t feel I am going out on a limb here, a manipulative creature with a “God Complex”. Did you catch the look she made when Moose ( hee) said soemthing to his dickshitted son about " What about that girl on the West coast?"

oooh. She is a closeted controlled nutball.

I’d rather work with me.

Bill was absolutely genius trying to instigate soemthing between Nick and Amy. As if Nick isn’t distracted enough with Amy as it is.
I would have to think that those bidders at the last minute are set up so as to create more tension in the boardroom. Just like the Art House Auction stuff. Only one person bought a small picture of $900 cat.
And the picture of Younger Trump at his Most Exclusive place in florida…HAH! He looked like Steve Austin the 6 million dollar man. All that money and a cheesy portrait.

Prediction:
Kwame is gone next week.

Or Nick the dick finally flames out.

That was hilarious! Not to mention that sly little horoscope jag with Kwame. (Anybody else think Bill made up both those horoscopes on the spot? “Someone you love and respect will let you down in the next 24 hours.” Heh.)

The last-minute couple had wanted the place for a New Year’s Eve party, but were put off by the clause that they had to vacate by midnight. The lovebirds may have been able to have that changed for “an additional fee” giving them the extra cash. No way to tell, given what was shown.

The Donald’s questions in the boardroom sounded much more like a job interview this time than a review of the challenge, which is why Troy did not come off as well as the cool and competent Kwame. Even given that, I was surprised by The Donald’s decision as Troy had been head and shoulders above all his competitors in the Missions.

Assorama Back! Oh my God…

I’ve liked Troy, but I lost a lot of respect for him when he outright lied to that second couple he was trying to sell to. Maybe I’m naive, but I think you can be a successful businessperson without resorting to dishonesty to make a sale.

I would love Troy to be the head of my sales department or VP of marketing, but I don’t think I want him to be president. I’d rather have Bill or Kwame or even Amy (but NOT Nick).

I wonder what’s up with bringing the Big O back?

This week made me the saddest yet! I LOVE Troy! I’m so sad to see him go. Sure, he is a little rough around the edges…but MAN - he can WORK IT!

I have no clue who I want to cheerr for now. I would have said Kwame, but now I’m sad because Troy is gone.

What shall a girl do?

Exactly.

And has anyone noticed that nearly every time Trump is talking, it’s a voice over? They show him from behind all the time, and the words don’t match the jaw movements. You especially notice it in the boardroom - there’s a massive difference between what he’s saying, how his head is moving, and how the players in the room are reacting.

I wanna know what the fuck is going on.

Also, I’m guessing the Omarosa clips were a little bit of an April Fool’s joke.

I really liked Bill until last night. He’s a great player, but why does he need to resort to middle-school antics like teasing Amy about Nick? That’s just ridiculous. And this has been bothering me for weeks: why does Bill look like he’s constipated or about to cry when he’s in the boardroom? It doesn’t even matter if he’s in the hotseat (which he never is), but he always has that pursed-lip look on his face. It bugs me.

Okay Amy Nick has a crush on you. Mm-hm. That’s why you made that “father-in-law” joke. Even I know, you don’t joke about stuff like that unless you’re really thinking it. It would have most men running scared. And if we can trust the editing (and I know we can’t), the look on your face after Nick’s father mentioned the girl on the west coast suggested to me that you are more invested in this “crush” than you let on. Psycho.

Okay, I’m going to say it. I never really liked Troy. He’s too used car salesman for big business and I think Trump made the right choice last night. He may be charming at first, but that “I’m just a hayseed from Idaho” schtick gets old…quick!

Something else that bothers me, to no end, is the voiceovers in the boardroom. We never hear things as they actually happened. Whenever we don’t see Trump onscreen, you can tell they had him do a voiceover to make it sound all pretty. And it’s done SO badly if even I can notice it. I want to hear things they way they happened, not what they want us to think happened. Same with the badly edited voiceover when they were all in the penthouse and he was explaining what the prize for the winning team would be. Even I did better editing than that in college!

Anyway, my prediction is that it will be an Amy/Bill showdown.

It was especially clear last night, when there was a long summary from him that was clearly done in a different timbre from the rest of what he said.

It doesn’t bother me particularly – I think it’s just because he’s not really a TV type, so he’ll fluff his lines or adlib incoherently or whatever. I doubt they’re actually changing the effect of what happens, just the presentation of it.

Well, it’s not like Nick & Amy had to make a mad dash for the airport directly from the boardroom. Heck, maybe a few days went by before the trip, which would have given the producers plenty of time to call a few family members.

You’ll see this phenomenon all the time in new programs and documentaries where they have a sit-down interview with someone. They are tightening up the editing to make the show move along. It always kinda makes you wonder if things are being edited out of context, but that’s the way it goes, there’s probably nothing sinister going on.
Although the show leads us to believe that Trump is going to pick someone to be a President, he’s really picking someone to be his Apprentice. He wants someone who will be an effective and creative leader (which I think Troy would be), but more importantly he wants someone who will do things the way Trump wants them done. Kwame, because of his corporate background and his Harvard MBA, more closely fits that role. (But still, I was hoping he would keep Troy).
And twickster said it best with:

I don’t know about “ideal,” but on reflection, the choice of Kwame over Troy was pretty clear. Troy doesn’t appear to have the discipline to handle the day-to-day management of a company in the Trump organization, which does not involve manufactured tasks of the kind that are featured on “The Apprentice.” That’s what the CFO question was really about - what CFOs do on a day-to-day basis is mundane, boring, and absolutely vital to the operation of the company. Kwame would make a good CFO or President, someone who can get things done but isn’t the vision guy. In all of Trump’s companies, Trump is the vision guy, so he doesn’t need another one.

It was a tough call, though, especially since there wasn’t any particular incompetence shown on this task by Troy’s team. Nick and Amy were saved by a stroke of blind luck, or perhaps by Amy doing some stroking of her own off-camera. (That’s the only explanation I can come up with for why they got the last second stay of boardroom.)

I really don’t know. Burnett has a history of not only editing, but refilming and reproducing scenes with stand-ins (who look like the contestants) to obtain the footage he wants. I’m sure he’d go to any extreme to fufill his agenda.

Even if Trump’s voice over is merely reiterating what was stated in person, I’m sure they could have achieved the same results by simply editing what was actually said. If they have to resort to a voice over, it’s obvious some considerable changes were made. It’s especially annoying when the contestant’s reactions are shown responding to Trump’s words; how do we know that what they are responding to even syncs up with what Donald said?

I don’t take anything they exhibit on this show at face value.

I’ve read somewhere (there have been soooo many articles about this show and I’m not remembering where now) that the boardroom lasts about a couple hours so I’d really hope they’d cut it down a bit.
As for the Amy/Nick-deus-ex-machina-out-of-the-boardroom couple that came in at the last minute. :dubious: , it reminds me of the other article I read (was this on twop.com?) about the episode where they fixed up and rented the apartment. The rumor/truth of the matter states that the one woman was promised the apartment that ended up being the winning one by the landlord. The landlord agreed to rip up the lease and rent it to her for a pre-agreed upon price.

I was bummed to see Troy go and was surprised that Donald did give him more kudos for bringing his friend into the boardroom with him.

As for Assorama, I can’t believe she’s coming back! (I also can’t believe someone claims “pageantry as a hobby” either though…)

Yeah, but it’s not a documentary. Everybody knows that Reality TV is heavily edited and manipulated by the producers. It’s just a drama with cheap actors.

I agree. It looked entirely too suspicious. Didn’t they have just 2 minutes to go before the deadline when those pigeons waltzed in? How on earth did they do their deal and get all the paperwork done with only that short time left? (Or maybe the 2 minutes was like the NFL’s 2 minutes. . . which seems to stretch on for at least 15 minutes!) Still. . . it did have a bit of an aroma. . .

I’m sorry Troy is gone. He was the most interesting of the remaining players and probably the most creative one. He was spot on in his assessment of Kwame: too “textbook” and not a great leader. Oh, well. . . it’s just a tv show.

Perhaps most of the people at SDMB, but I can guarantee you the majority of The Apprentice’s audience either has no idea, or doesn’t care. Even I was surprised by how much behind-the-scenes crap goes on with various reality shows.

It doesn’t help that the show’s presentation conceals the fact that any editing occurred. It’s quite deceptive.

Lots of good commentary already. I think amarinth is spot on: neither Troy nor Kwame was going to win this game, and Donald just decided to fire Troy first.

I’m guessing that Omarosa is back because all (or many) of the fired contestants are back next week. Perhaps they’re giving “employee feedback” about the final candidates, maybe they’re functioning as some kind of jury. But it won’t be just Omarosa, and she’s not going to be back in contention. That’s my hunch, and I’m sticking to it.
