The Ark (open spoilers)

I’ve been trying to fill a space opera void with Syfy’s newest space opera on Peacock. Interesting premise, colony ship suffers diaster and looses over half it’s crew, but flawed execution. The science is distractingly bad and the mission is so poorly planned it seems like it was set up to fail. Two cryo-bays so naturally you stick all the command staff & important crew in one and the b team in the other. Parts of the ship spin for centrifugal gravity and the parts that don’t spin somehow also have artificial gravity? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: And the whole engine subplot makes zero sense. The ship isn’t going stop or slow down just because the engines are down. In fact if they’re only a year away from Proxima Centuri they should be concerned about not being able to slow down in time. Thoughts?

…I think its terrible.

And I love it LOL.

There are worse versions of shows like this on at the moment like LA Brea, or Manifest. And this one has the advantage of having Dean Devlin as showrunner which means even if its schlock, I know that it’s my kinda schlock. I just turn my brain off and go for it.

I typically find if I can engage with the characters then I can pretty much overlook almost everything else. And I’m not hating the characters. Yet. They are drawn in very broad strokes in the pilot, but they’ve settled down a bit now and I think, as terrible as everything is, I’m in for the ride.
