But here we are with a forum, or should I say “channel”, devoted to rural living. Or is it urban house rehabbing? Or both? Maybe we need another new forum.
What disappoints me about this move is you are destroying what makes this place great. With judicious moderation, the content of each forum is of reasonably high quality, and each forum represents a place where you can go just to browse, because the chances are you’ll find something interesting. You might not even know what you want to see until you get there. But now that you are beginning to pigeonhole threads into forums by topic, that wonderful serendipitous quality is going to be lost.
As a parallel, this message board has traditionally resembled PBS, or one of those few radio stations some of us are still lucky enough to have, where they play a mixture of good music and interesting news and cultural affairs programs, and you can listen to them all day long. Now it looks like it’s going to turn into fucking cable TV. I suppose next there’ll be an HGTV forum, then Big Foot, and finally a ghost hunters’ forum. The only thing missing will be the endless commercial breaks for term life insurance and denture adhesives.
I could understand the creation of Cafe Society, and then the Game Room. It was too difficult to decide where to put threads about these things. Even if you were to split off a Sports forum from the Game Room, that would make sense, since sports are rather a different world than online or board gaming. But The Barn House? Please.
