The best Rush album...

Has to be Farewell to Kings, for the best misheard lyric (c/o a buddy of mine in a strange frame of mind one night):

“To seek the sacred river Ralph”…

Hemispheres and Moving Pictures equal second. And for the first 30 seconds of ‘By Tor and The Snow Dog’, All the World’s a Stage.

I like the one where he bashes the Liberals. ;p

How the fuck did I miss this thread?

Hrm…my pick for best is a tie between 2112 and Power Windows. Folllowed by Signals, Caress of Steel, Roll the Bones, Permanent Waves, and Presto.

Like Coldy, I have by LEASY favorite albums, but that’s another thread. Hmmm…maybe I should start it.

Counterparts.

A Farewell to Kings is my favorite and in my opinion the most thoroughly consistent album. I think it fits perfectly as the transitional pivot separating Fly by Night from Signals and thus perfectly exemplifying the ideal 1970s-era Rush (yes, I know Signals came out in 1982).

Though I enjoyed Rush in the late-1980s, I did not identify with the post-Signals albums, except Grace Under Pressure, which is still as much early Rush as later Rush. The Rush of the 1990s I know not at all.

But A Farewell to Kings, man, that one would make it to my desert island.
