The Bewitched movie will be-suck

Official site

This will have the entire cast spinning in their graves.

As far as old TV shows being made into movies, this one looks particularly awful. Not that it would have been any better but why the need to take a fairly wholesome concept and make it into something that looks like it could be mean-spirited and nasty? And stupid.

This is what happens when Hollywood executives try to be postmodern and clever.

Two thumbs down. Way down.

It doesn’t help any that Will Ferrell is in it.

Meh, I thought the trailer was pretty funny, which means the movie won’t be as funny. However, I really like Will Ferrell a lot, so we’ll see…

 Whatever–I say if you had anything to do with the original Bewitched in the first place, you’re in no strong position to pass aesthetic judgment on anything… (Agnes Moorehead strongly excepted).

Gotta admit. Moorehead made that show.

During the pilot…

She is encountered by some local boys. She tells them she’s a witch.

Boy: “Are you a good witch? Or a bad witch?”

Endora (waggling fingers): “Eh, Comme ci, comme ca.”

WAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHA

I mean, that was just brilliant on someone’s part. And in my heart I like to think it was Moorehead that came up with it.

Well, the “I’m Darren! How DID THIS HAPPEN!?” made me smile. And it does have my secret boyfriend, Stephen Colbert (it’s French. Bitch). Which means I’ll have to see it when it comes out on HBO…

I think it looks like it might be funny. Just because it doesn’t follow the plot of the TV show doesn’t mean it will be bad. In fact, if it followed the plot of the original, I probably wouldn’t want to watch it.

Or Nicole Kidman. For all of her current popularity, she’s left a trail of bombs longer than a B-52 over a Souteast Asian country. And, if you notice, she doesn’t even wiggle her damn nose properly; it’s sort of a lip twitch.

Fortunately, I don’t really care about the show, so defaming it in a (no doubt) terrible remake doesn’t really bother me. If someone tries to remake I Dream Of Jeannie though, I’m going to have to go on the warpath. Barbara Eden (along with her fellow Trifecta of Syndication Beauty associates, Dawn Wells and Sally Field) were the reason I got out of bed during the summer of 1985.

Stranger

If you look at the original you’ll see it’s pretty much a lip twitch too. Kidman’s does look like it’s a bit more lip and a bit less nose though.

Hard to tell from the trailer, which tends to mean I’m not gonna like it. I’ll probably see it at the budget theatre when it gets there.

…it’s kind of hard to judge if you haven’t seen the movie…? Kind of like jumping the gun.

I’ve wanted to see it since it was advertised, because I think it looks cute and goofy (kind of like the SHOW was). Won’t really know until its actually comes out, though.

I’m sorry, I gotta drop in here. 9 replys and the words Elizabeth Montgomery have yet to appear?

Elizabeth Montgomery! The most beautiful female ever to inhabit planet Earth!

: pants :

Now that I’ve got that off my chest, I think the movie looks pretty good.

My opinion is based on the trailer and it doesn’t look good.

Will Ferrell, IMHO, is not that funny and I have yet to get the appeal of Nicole Kidman.

The film will be funny if and only if at one point in the film Will Farrel is inexplicably replaced by Will Smith, Will Friedle, or Will Estes for the rest of the picture, and no one comments on it.

Personally, I can’t wait for the Christian crazies to start protesting a movie about witchcraft.

I guess there’s something wrong with me, but I think it looks like it could be kind of good. Better than just remaking the show with no changes other than the usual stupid ‘updates.’ We’ll be seeing it, for sure – mostly because my husband has an inexplicable lech for Nicole Kidman.

Well I finally watched Elf on cable and I was really suprised at how good it was, so I’m willing to give this a chance.

But, since they say they are casting an unknown as Samantha it would have been fun to cast a real unknown.

Bleh. Not going to lie, I’m a big fan of the old TV series (well, the black and white episodes anyway, it all sort of goes to hell with color), and this pretty much like ass.

It doesn’t help that Will Ferrel is one of my least favorite anythings ever.

Another vote for “the original show sucked, but the cast was brilliant.” I was [checking tvtome.com] seven when it first aired, so I wasn’t all that critical. But watching the reruns, I see a brilliant cast struggling with lame scripts.

Elizabeth Montgomery—Dick York—Agnes Moorehead—Alice Pearce—George Tobias—Paul Lynde—Maurice Evans—the matchless Marion Lorne—surely one of the bests casts of '60s TV. Shame on the writers (imdb lists 58 staff writers!) for not supplying them with decent material.

I see that a Danny Devito-directed remake of I Married a Witch (the flick that inspired Bewitched) also seems to be in production.
