I googled him–was that really George Smoot at the end of the ep?
It looked like him and the delivery was that of a non-actor, but the line was great!
How entertaining!

Tonights episode “The Terminator Decoupling”.
I don’t think was one of the best.
That being said, the train ride took up way too much time.
I figured out how Penny would solve the puzzle box. Certain things to the show are becomming, … well known.
My Step-dad made the comment about Raj’s Beer.
My Mom even figured that Emailing the paper would be offered as a solution.
I love how Wallowitz and Raj are still working off each other. (The entire “…It must be Summer” comment.)
Ever Since the episode with Leonard’s Mom the Wallowitz and Raj dynamic has been more pronounced. One good move for the show over all. (And what made me decide on buying Season 2 on DVD when it comes out.)
The Episode to me played out as an excuse to get the gang on the train to have a rapid fire attempt all at the same female intrest.
I hope next week’s is better.
Wow.
I thought they were name-checking Oliver Smoot.
I’m not worthy! I’m not worthy!
(I’m just a HS science teacher, which is about the lowest rung of the science ladder.)
Yeah, it was an inertia episode. I didn’t find much interesting in it.
I was hoping for some sort of measurement reference, too. George, however, is his cousin.
Not one of the memorable episodes, that’s for sure. I was actually hoping that we see them interacting more at the S.F. conference, but no. All we got was the train ride and the Smoot ending (which I like). They can’t all be gems.
Yes, that was him – and it’s a very relevant reference, since he got his Nobel for the discovery of anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background that acted as the ‘seeds’ of the inhomogeneity currently observed in the universe (what with matter clinging together as planets, stars, galaxies and so on), which is important observational evidence for, well, the Big Bang theory.
Sheldon, is that you?
I thought this episode was fun, because it centered around “train geekiness” which is definitely out there but not usually picked up on in your regular run-of-the-mill geek exploration (geeks like computers and science fiction the end).
My brother and his best friend are train geeks, in a way. They spent hours and hours and hours playing Rail Baron while we were growing up, and often get excited when talking about trains. So watching Sheldon geek out over the trains really made me LOL
I think the hilarity of a Big Bang Theory episode must be inversely proportional to the distance between Sheldon and Penny, as evidenced by this week.
p.s. Summer Glau seemed nice. What’s the over/under until we see a Randall Munroe reference on xkcd?
Nice? She didn’t do anything, she was just “the chick”.
I think there have been a few Randall Munroe references on xkcd, though you probably have to know him well to get them.
Did you mean something like ‘Randall Munroe shoutout on BBT/BBT reference on xkcd’?
I think The Controvert meant that she seems nice when playing a normal character (even if it is herself), since her claim to geeky fame comes from roles as a mentally damaged super soldier and an emotionless cyborg.
I mean, her eyes didn’t even bug out once!
And the poor dear is going to have to put up with geeks using that line on her until the end of time.
Why oh why do they put up with Sheldon? Is it because he’s so relentless that it’s easier to let him have his way?
Heck, I would have told Sheldon if he wanted to take the train, to take the train, but that I was going to get there faster and cheaper by flying. They even had an episode where it was decided they only way they could go to the movies was to leave Sheldon behind.
And the thing with the puzzle box would have been funnier if it had been a gift from Sheldon’s grandmother…MoonPie indeed.
They have the characters’ reactions all wrong. I would imagine these guys hang out with Sheldon b/c he’s endless entertainment, but they set up every one of his comments for an eye-roll from someone else. In real life, Sheldon’s friends would be laughing at him quite a bit.
Just being on screen is enough for me. I don’t know her work, but I don’t care.
I’m kinda losing my patience with this show. Too much emphasis on Sheldon is killing my interest.
Really? Are you more into the “Leonard luuurves Penny” storyline that was most of the first season?
Exactly! This annoys me to no end about this show. The main character and his constant eye rolling makes him actually less likable than Sheldon to me.
It was the same with Jeff in Coupling, if anybody has seen this show. Friends are not like that to each other. So annoying.
It was better to some extent, mainly because it was somewhat more plausible that both of them would act like that. As a viewer, I just don’t see why anyone really puts up with him as more than a very smart, but utterly socially inept, colleague. The thing a couple of weeks ago with him being utterly free with loaning money was good - I think we need to see a whole lot more of that to make him more than a flat character that is funny because of how he doesn’t get along with others.
I like the interplay between all of them. I think the show suffers when it’s focusing on any individual too much (unless its Penny in her normal outfits :D). But this season, I’ve found I don’t really mind missing it. If I get a chance, I might catch it, but that’s only because HIMYM is on next. If they swapped around CBS online so that BBT was available online, and HIMYM wasn’t, I’d be rather annoyed, but as it is, meh.
