The Big Bang Theory, Season 10, Episode 14 (February 2, 2017) -- "The Emotion Detection Automation "

I am starting this thread in anticipation of tonight’s episode.

My DVR cut off my n the last scene. Why did Sheldon think that the emotion machine was not accurate?

Liked seeing all of Raj’s exes.

“Red-headed Emily Junior” made me laugh out loud.

I thought it a bit silly that the Golddigger Emily was there. They broke up because he got cut off from the family money.

Also, he dumped Red-headed Emily, Sr. But I guess he tried to get her to take him back, and she didn’t, so in the final analysis, she did reject him.

I wish they could figure out some way to get Raj together with Wendy Chow. It wouldn’t last, because of the conflicts with Leonard (and because she’s a smoker), but I would love to see more of the actress. I was so impressed with how present and developed the character was for a one-off character with only 5-10 minutes of dialogue (they usually film more than they use. I thought the actress was really fantastic.

I was really nervous that Howard and Raj were going to kiss at the end. There’s nothing wrong with being gay, I was just thinking of Bernadette at home with the baby, and thinking Howard had the worse timing that my quondam Pit Bull.

A very funny episode. I laughed a lot.

I like Amy starting to give them the “finger” and then just waving it off.

Lots of great dialogue.

“The field was just here; the field said, ‘No.’” LOL

Can anyone who signs verify the accuracy of Emily and Howard’s dialogue?

I kinda wonder if the scene with Howard and Raj at the end might not be floating a balloon for Raj deciding to give the fellas a try since he keeps failing so hard with the ladies. He clearly doesn’t have much of a problem with the idea. I still think it might add a fresh dynamic to the show.

Indeed, that would be a wholly new perspective on those two. Can one imagine Raj portrayed as a fey metrosexual ? He could say all sorts of self-revealing ambiguities.

In how many other sitcoms has a character been critiqued by his exes? E.g. Robert on Everybody Loves Raymond.

I liked the dialog between Raj and Howard; it’s about time they addressed the topic openly. I was hoping Leonard’s mother’s comments would be brought up.

“I’m not even sure how accurate it was. I brought it to the train store, and it said everyone there was sad.”

How many times has the “we’ll get married at 40” trope has been used a girl and her best gay guy friend? I think it’s great how unremarkable it is for two guys to promise to marry each other if they are available in the future. Or did they agree? I think Raj said he’d be all over Bernie.

And no, don’t be inviting your ex-con, drug dealing brother to live with us indefinitely without consulting with me first. Penny is lucky Leonard loves her so much because she’s a real ass. Like when she had a fit because she was married and Leonard took umbrage it this. Or when Sheldon lent her money and she was a real bitch to him because she felt guilty.

And Sheldon’s problem isn’t so much that he has problems reading social cues as much as he could give a shit about the social cues people are sending him. Even if he knows what a person is feeling, he says and does exactly what he wants anyway. Because he’s better than everybody, feels a little sorry for everybody who isn’t him and is glad he doesn’t have to be them.

I am worried about Penny and Leonard. They seem to be having a lot of conflict in their marriage. Penny continues to take Leonard for granted and Leonard keeps trying to keep the peace until he finally blows his top and they have a fight. Neither one is handling their relationship in a healthy manner. Certainly Penny should have discussed having her brother live with them for an unlimited time and I think it’s a bit early to be remodeling Sheldon’s room.

I liked Raj’s meeting with his exes, but the thing with Howard at the end just took a turn into the very strange. I didn’t catch Emily I and Emily II until I saw them sitting on the couch. How funny!

The emotion detector was well done, although couldn’t MIT come up with a smaller device? It’s rather clunky to carry that thing around and point it at people.

Overall, an improvement over last week’s episode. I don’t think the writers think that far ahead when coming up with episodes, but I wonder if a divorce is in our future.

Something like that happened to Frasier (with dozens of exes, in Frasier’s imagination). Murphy Brown had a similar episode with all her ex-secretaries.

Thank you.

Especially since Leonard does classified work - associating with a convicted felon might jeopardize his clearance.

Ya know, that might be rather entertaining!

The “clunkiness” made for a better sight gag, I think.

Now, that was a fantastic line! Loved it!

Maybe, but it was terribly wrong anyway. The thing looked like it used vacuum tubes, for Og’s sake! MIT ought to sue the show for defamation.

Meh. It’s supposed to be an early prototype. A final product might be an iPhone app.

I was amused that there’s a real MIT spinoff company that has software designed to do emotion recognition.
