The Big Bang Theory, Season 10, Episode 17 (February 23, 2017) -- "The Comic-Con Conundrum"

Starting the thread in anticipation of tonight’s episode.

If only the gods would put Penny back in the Wonder Woman outfit for this episode.

Well, the preview seems to indicate she’s going to the Con. Maybe your wish will be granted.

Perhaps she’s acquiring a taste for nerd culture. She seemed to like that one she attended as the star of Serial Apeist.

I concur. I will also accept a Princess Leia metal bikini costume.

If I remember correctly, it was Leonard who had a blast at that com. With his change maker and hot, rich, movie star wife.

Penny could wear her hair up and go in a Yeoman Rand costume. (she could wear a black binocular case, say its a tricorder, but fill it like a purse).
Oh Dear Lord… We’ve Created Malibu-Penny…!

I concur. I will also accept Orion Slave Girl.

Sorry guys. No Comic-Con skimpy costumes. And I’m not too sure but I don’t think She-Hulk would have been that sexy.

So now all the guys except Sheldon are growing up. Finally. What are they now, 38 to 40? Some of them look it.

As has been the case this season, the only funny line was in the closing bit, and again Mayim Bialik had the best facial expression.

My favorite line, “Bernie, can I outsource my chores to an Indian guy?”

So Raj has been working at the university for about 15 years, and his father has been paying his way the whole time. Where the hell did his salary go? Assuming he is bringing home at least $25K a year, that’s about $350K he’s earned. And probably more.

I still sense trouble in paradise for Leonard and Penny. Amy was quite able to tell Sheldon she didn’t want to go. Neither Leonard or Penny seem to have that level of honesty. Lots of miscommunication going on there.

So funny to see Sheldon as Raj’s business manager. I think I would be the same, “You want to go to ComiCon? Go earn some money to buy the tickets.” How much does an astrophysicist at CalTech make, anyway?

Obviously, there’s enough overspending in Raj’s budget that he could save more by cutting back (dropping the housekeeper, for instance) than he’s ever going to make as a sign spinner for Stuart. But that would be boring and not funny. So they show us Raj doing stupid shit like selling his collectibles for pennies on the dollar to Stuart.

Yeah, that was great!

Seriously, are PhD’s that underpaid that they cannot maintain a middle class lifestyle without support from their parents? If Raj’s dad is so rich, he would have paid the credit cards in full each month rather than accumulate a balance, so why would Raj be in debt? So now Raj has to pay rent and maintain a car. Big whoop.

The best bit was the end “what I have in my pants for you” with Sheldon and Amy.

Raj said in the episode that his father paid his credit card bills, except for one that Raj used for “emergencies” although apparently he uses it far too often.

Edited to add, the problem isn’t maintaining a middle-class lifestyle. The problem is that he’s been maintaining an upper-class lifestyle while earning a middle-class wage.

Actually, She-Hulk is usually portrayed as very sexy.

The whole bit with Raj’s finances doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. Last episode we were told that his father paid for essentially everything–his car, his rent, and his credit cards (and if somebody else was paying your credit card bills, would you ever pay for anything in any other way?). So yeah, he should have several years worth of salary just sitting in his bank account, untouched. Now we learn that he apparently has another credit card that his father doesn’t pay, which he has also maxed out on stuff like penguin sponsorships. But hey, it’s a sitcom.

They’ve all missed Comic-Con before, that time they couldn’t get badges and Sheldon ended up becoming James Earl Jones’s new BFF. Actually, as I understand it, Comic-Con badges really do tend to sell out very rapidly these days, so I’m not sure why they were all so casual about even being able to get in. But hey, it’s a sitcom.

Given that we’ve been told time and again how precarious Stuart’s own finances are, how much can he really afford to pay Raj? But hey, it’s a sitcom.

Has anybody figured out my new mantra for watching this show?

The ending was great too. Mayim Bialik can say more with one look than most actors can with 7 pages of dialogue.

Don’t be sorry.

Hey, if she can’t pull it off, then she can’t pull it off. We all know that there is more to acting than push-up bras and dress-up.

I think she can pull it off, and while there is more to acting than a skin show, the skin show is a welcome treat.
