The Big Bang Theory - "The Raiders Minimization" (10/10/2013)

He led directly to The Last Crusade!

The fact that Indiana Jones “didn’t do anything” is relevant only with 20/20 plot hindsight. But to me, his failure is in keeping with his character. Indy fails constantly, perseveres through pluck, and gets saved by deus ex machina over and over.

  • He gets the idol stolen twice. He gets it back the first time by luck, and lives to escape because of Jock and the conveniently placed float plane.
  • He leads the Nazis to Marion, geets his butt kicked and contributes to the destruction of her bar.
  • He loses then accidentally kills Marion in Cairo, then gets saved by Sallah’s kids.
  • Sallah and a dead monkey save him from getting poisoned.
  • He leads the Nazis to the Ark and nearly gets himself and Marion killed in the process, only escapes by destroying a prcieless archaeological site.
  • Gets his ass kicked in a fight again, gets saved by a propeller. And again almost gets Marion killed.
  • Given his track record in the film, it’s no wonder he gets captured and saved by a literal God from a machine.

It’s what makes him so interesting. He’s not invincible like most heroes, and he doesn’t really save the day; it just kind of feels that way because that’s the trope.

Jesus you guys are nitpicky

Overall, I thought this was a good episode, especially compared to the last few ones.

Sheldon’s reaction was in line with his character. Anyone saying he is a jerk has not been following the series (he’s always a jerk, but it’s attributed to his Asperger’s, so it’s “funny”).

Amy’s spoiling of Indiana Jones was also in line with her character. A more socially-aware person would not demolish a beloved movie of their boyfriend/girlfriend, but it has clearly been established that she is not very socially-aware.

The whole episode worked quite well. And I did not mind Penny in the teddy :).

The only thing that I didn’t like was Raj-the-pathetic-loser story. Can the writers please stop with that storyline and either get him a girlfriend or put him in funny stories that do not involve his relationship status?

nitpicky fits the show.

he did have a girlfriend and it was funny.

Further nitpick: Penny was wearing baby doll pajamas, not a teddy:

I don’t think it was a matter of nerve that kept Bernadette from pressing the issue. It was also not wanting to hurt her friend’s feelings. Bernadette recognized that Amy’s love for Sheldon isn’t any more rational than hers for Howard. After all, Bernadette could do much “better” as well.

Yeah, she’s really cruising for a spanking.

I spent last weekend at New York ComicCon. Trust me, there were many attractive young women there. Some of them ridiculously so.

Funnily enough, I’d noticed that there were a lot of Con goers who looked like Bernadette — short, cute, blonde, busty, with glasses. None of them were wearing a skirt and tights, so it wasn’t cosplay. They just happened to look like her.

How many of the guys looked like John Popper? Dragon Con is full of them.

New York ComicCon, you say. Are they taking reservations for next year, yet?

“Amy … honey … you have a sex drive and you deserve someone who will satisfy it, who wants to satisfy it, who hungers to satisfy it. Who sees you and and wants you, not just someone who is holding your hands because he is contractually obligated to. You can have that. You are woman enough to deserve it.”

Bernadette is not compromising on having her most basic desires met.

And how many of them were ready to hop into bed with you? :dubious:

I’m amazed at how everyone just skips over the requirement “of that inclination.”

Would you take your damn hijack to another thread.

I was responding to terentii’s comment that there are no attractive women at comic conventions. I said there were many attractive women at the convention I’d just attended.

I’m older than most convention-goers and happily married, so the issue of bed hopping is irrelevant.
