this storm looks like it is living up to its hype.
the little neighbourhood store i go to is nearly cleared out. a newscaster in new castle delaware is reporting that a the supermarket she is reporting from is out of eggs and meat.
i think this one could be like '96. i wonder if the stores will run out of condoms again!!!
Good thing this didn’t happen two years ago, when I lived there. But my parents are having it tough there–they say there’s about 16 inches on the ground already. Hope my mom can make it to her blood test tomorrow.
Here in western Maryland, we have over a foot of snow on the ground already, and are expecting an additional 12 inches or more overnight. Fortunately, there is a supermarket very close to us (we can see it from our front porch), and also our pantry and freezer are full. The very worst that could happen to us is we may have to end up drinking powdered milk (yuk).
I can see my car parked across the street, pointed downhill. The drifts are such that I can’t see the front wheel at all, and the rear wheel is covered about 3/4 of the way up.
The thing I loathe about snow is when Jim (yes I call my father by his name behind his back) makes me shovel while he snowblows just b/c he is too damn lazy to put chains, weights, and the snowplow on the Deere. I guess if my knee caps weren’t shattered after a little tubing accident yesterday I’d be in better spirits about it anyway.
Here we have a good half foot, which isn’t much. But, it’s all dense, icy snow, so the roads are covered. It’s been snowing all day, and will snow all of tonight.
Yes, I think this storm will eclipse the “Blizzard of '96”. One of the newscasters on tv called this storm the “Big Dawg of 2003”. I’m glad I live in a highrise and don’t need to shovel the walk.
No snow here, just a fricking big ice storm. It started last night and is still going. Might end by morning. Power is out in most of the city (Lexington KY) and many roads blocked. I’m sitting here listening to the symphony of cracks and snaps as accumlated ice breaks tree limbs like toothpicks.
On the other hand I’m one of the few that has electricity and I don’t have to work tomorrow. So as long as the tree in the front yard doesn’t end up on my roof I’m good.
dwyr - I feel for you. Ice is even worse than snow.
This is really some storm. I’ve spent all day keeping my deck and steps clear so my dog could get out, and now the snow is so deep in the yard that she can’t walk! I’ve never seen anything like this. She’s not a small dog, either.
I’m worried about the roof of my family room, too. It doesn’t have the pitch of the rest of the house and there’s a LOT of snow on it.
I love snow, but I agree, this much snow is a little scary.
