Blizzard of '05

Well the weatherman says its going to begin in about 2 hours.Am heading to a friends to bunker down and wait it out- plenty of comfort foods and a fair amout of beer and wine. What are you doing to ride out the storm?

Expecting 25 inches of snow
Winds up to 50 MPH
and 5 foot drifts :smack:

Whatever you are doing be SAFE and carefull

I am in an office with no heat, my Big Boss has no heat at his house, and two of our tenant occupied buildings have no heat. The PSEG guy just informed me the problem is not one he can fix. I have a space heater and a microwave, but I am basically DYING here.

Can I go home now?

it started at 10am in philly. just like they said it would. starting to lay a nice coating now.

Looks to be slowing down here in Youngstown, but here at my complex it wasn’t too bad - maybe 5-6 inches?
Wait, I lied. It looks to be picking up again for a little while, but still not as hard as it was coming down earlier.

It started about fifteen hours ago here in Chicago and it’s still going strong.

It’s right pretty, but I have an appointment this afternoon and am going to a party tonight. At least I don’t have to drive in it.

The only thing I have to do today is go pick up a prescription at the drugstore around the corner – I’ll probably bundle up and venture out this afternoon sometime. Other than that – I’ve got books, videos, the computer, and a purring cat, I’m set.

You know, when it’s in the Midwest, it’s just some snow. When it hits the Northeast, it’s a blizzard. Did it get stronger or something?

No fun! We are only expecting 5-10 and that is too much!

As you say, be safe all!

It’s just started flurrying here in Northern NJ, they’re guessing anywhere from 8 inches to three-and-a-half miles. It’s the 50-mph wind gusts that will play ducks and drakes with us.

I just finished my laundry and am not even going to the Shop-Rite, as I have been warned it is packed to the rafters with panicked peasants in babushkas buying bread, eggs and milk before the Cossacks get to town. I’m off to the 7/11 around the corner (do they take credit cards?) where I can get most of what I need.

Then hunker down and study: I’ve just started night school this week (I’m going to become a knight), and I already have 40 pages of reading to do!!

It’s sucking moisture up off the Atlantic. National Weather Service is telling us to expect 20 to 30 inches of snow, plus drifting (this is near Springfield, MA)

I am going to sit in my nice warm house with a good cup of hot chocolate and laugh at you all. Hahaha.

Na, I kid. I’ll make you all hot chocolate and blankets when it’s over.

Refreshed the stack of wood by the woodstove, got new batteries for the 4 battery lanterns we have, dug out the bag of tealights for the 4 or 5 small lanterns. Replaced the batteries in the radio, and also in the camping radio/alarmclock/cd player, no sense in being bored=) also made sure the charge on all my laptop batteries is good - so i can stay connected as long as my cell phone lives, or watch a movie/play a game to feed my internet jones=)

In half an hour or so I am starting a large pot of beef stew [will be nice done on the stove, and if/when the power goes out can be transferred to the wood stove=)]

Finished up the last of the laundry and washed all the dishes, pots and pans. Found my favorite pulli [a scrumptious hand knit norwegian sweater permanently ‘borrowed’ from a german friend <evil grin>] and some nice warm clothing in case I have to go outside.

Filled 5 1 gallon potable water jugs, and set aside 5 5 gallon containers for flushing [we live on a farm, and have to pump our water, and our generator just died this past fall and we dont have the money to fix it=(]

Well, I just got back from my second trip to the grocery today (it’s walking distance - on an average day, it’s maybe a five minute walk. Took a little longer today, but I think getting my coat, gloves and scarf on took longer).

I had to go back because I needed a couple of movies from Iggle Video inside the store. Anyway, I figure it’s about 8 inches near my apartment at the moment, and I’m thinking it’s time for a nap. After all, what else am I going to do today? Laundry? Ha - I figure the whole building’s down there right now, since not many people are going anywhere.

We were supposed to go to the Strictly Sail boat show in Philly today. Obviously, we opted out. I hate that we’re out $30 for tickets, but such is life.

Southern Maryland is on the bottom edge of this mess - we’re getting a little snow now, and freezing rain promised for later today. There’s a happy thought.

It’s coming down here in Central PA. I’ve heard predictions anywhere from 8 to 10 inches, all the way to 10 to 14 inches.

I went to the supermarket last night, where I bought everything but milk. The generic bread was still pretty well stocked, but the brand-name stuff was gone.

I think we’ll be OK.

I don’t know about other areas, but we’re supposed to be into the 40s by Tuesday. So whatever we get will be gone in a couple of days.

I was supposed to have a big outing for my birthday tonight but it’s coming down fast and it’s only been snowing for about 45 minutes. :frowning: Mom even bought me a consolation cake because she knew I wouldn’t be able to go. This sucks. So maybe I’ll just move it to next weekend, but bleh.

So I’m in, with mom and dad, all the furry creatures, and my cake. And my happy little space heater.

elfbabe and Mrs. Mercotan are trying to get from Western Pennsylvania into Wisconsin over th next 36 hours. By car. Right now they’re holed up with some friends near the Ohio/PA line, and will attempt the journey on the morrow.

I’m hunkered down for the weekend with books, computer, TV and videos. will probably venture out late today to brush the first few hours of snow off the car. Luckily, I managed to get a small shovel this morning to dig the dumb thing out.

The wife, unfortunately, is working all day today and tomorrow, might venture out to meet her at the subway, if the buses aren’t running.

I’m staying right here in my dorm. I went outside once today, to go to breakfast, and that was enough for me. I’ve got enough food in my mini-fridge to last me the rest of the weekend.
