Blizzard of '05

It’s now 1:39 PM on Saturday & snowing like the dickens. It started snowing right around noon & they say it won’t stop until around noon tomorrow. They’re predicting anywhere from 15" to 2’ for my area.

I’m sitting around drinking herbal tea & thinking, “I should really be doing my lesson plans”. We have pizza-makings & all essential food items, plus heat, so we’re fine.

I’m still at work with no heat and now it’s a blizzard outside. I’m typing in gloves with my check on the space heater while I wait for our electrician.

I’ve given up on the idea of ever getting warm again.

We’re rockin’ about 6 inches of the white stuff. Did all my grocery shopping last night after work like everyone else in the area. I would normally have gone today, but our road won’t get hit until tomorrow maybe Monday. Right now they are calling for 9-14 inches total. It started here @7 am and it ain’t gonna stop til 6 in the mornin’. I got gas heat & range, so even if the power goes out, we’ll be warm. Gotta take the little warriorettes out now they are going insane. Later & stay warm.

We got a break on the accumulation because some of our snow showed up as freezing rain.

Yay.

I do plan to go to the movies in a while because the PennDoT seems to have done a half decent job on the roads.

I’m glad to not be snowbound!

Ours stopped for a little bit, then restarted as big, fluffy flakes. I’m guessing there’s just under an inch on the ground now. According to some weather sites, the rain could start any time.

Sounds like a good day to make a cherry cobbler…

Living in the same area as MsRobyn- It’s coming down, and I’m at work now. They didn’t plow part of my route home because it’s a dead end road, so hopefully it will be done by 8, when I get off.

We have milk for the roomie (I can’t stand the taste, but I use it for baking and such) and a few loaves of bread in the freezer that I baked this week. Plus I have two weeks worth of meals frozen. The roommate is keeping up on the sidewalks now so the landlords (who are 80) don’t try their hand at it.

This isn’t going to be anything big, I don’t think.

I was supposed to have a big outing for my birthday tonight but it’s coming down fast and it’s only been snowing for about 45 minutes. :frowning: Mom even bought me a consolation cake because she knew I wouldn’t be able to go. This sucks. So maybe I’ll just move it to next weekend, but bleh.

I missed this the first time 'round! You, too? My birthday was this past Monday, so I was going to get a bunch of friends together for a celebration of sorts tonight. Postponed, of course. Oh, well.

P.S. It’s still snowing at a fierce pace; two or three inches thus far.

Why, yes, I am an expert at coding! Why do you ask?

:smack:

So far, nothing in Central Vermont (Barre) but clouds…

so far, but it is snowing in York, Maine

Cherry cobbler in the oven. Sleet falling from the sky.

I have electricity (and heat), water, internet, enough food for a couple of weeks, and if that’s gone, enough fat to live off of for about a year, my car actually fit in the garage, so I’m gonna sit here and play.

I’m sorry. Don’t mean to gloat. It’s just so unusual for me to be, uhm, happy

I was in and out of the 7/11 in ten minutes, got everything I needed. Was told the local Shop-Rite was on the news, with panicked villagers sobbing, “must get eggs . . . bread . . . milk . . . Cossacks coming!” What is it with people?

Our main problem is the boiler’s gone out, so we have no heat, and the wind’s kicking up something fierce (the thermometer outside my window says it’s about 13 degrees). The snow’s . . . well, it’s coming down, but it’ll still well under 6", though it’s supposed to get worse over the next 12 hours.

Still, I’m an East Coast Girl (I’m hip, you really dig the clothes I wear), and anything under a foot is a “dusting” to me.

Now . . . Gotta get started on my damn studying. 20 pages today, 20 pages tomorrow?

The Shop-Rite this morning was like the fall of Saigon, only with fewer cashiers working. There weren’t even any carts or handbaskets available when I got there.

The current inaction on my street is like a case study of applied game theory. No one has started shovelling yet (and some of the neighbors don’t have to, since they have snowblowers)! I think it’s not just because we’re expecting another 12-24 hrs. of snowfall, but also those 40-50 m.p.h. gusts tonight, which will make a mockery of anyone’s efforts.

How deep can you safely let the drifts pile up on a flat slab roof, anyway?

We’ve got about 6-8" on the ground right now. kittenlm and I were just outside playing with the puppy in the snow…weeeee!

Of course, now I have an official Wet Dog. Noseplugs, anyone?

I’m happily watching my husband shovel lots of snow while I snuggle under a blanket with a warm cat and a big piece of chocolate. He likes this weather and I don’t. So he does all the winter outdoor stuff and I do all the summer outdoor stuff.

We’ve got 8" so far, and the snow is still falling like crazy. I made lentil soup for dinner. It’s a good day for soup.

where Im at, we’ve got a good foot. Started about 15 hours ago, still going, but reduced intesity. lots of wind, though.

It’s stopped snowing, but the roads are lousy. I drove from my house to my in-laws’, 10 minutes away. Tonight, it was closer to 30 minutes.

Cosmopolitan I totally forgot our birthdays were close together! You’re the 17th, I’m the 18th. And I think you’re a year older than I am (I turned 25). But yeah there was no way anyone on LI was going to make their way out to Farmingdale tonight.

I want to be at FairyChatMom’s house. Pout.

we got 9 inches like they said. I’ve spent 2.5 hours in the last 24 hours shoveling the stuff (corner lot!).

It stopped about noon, roads are fine now, just got back from the grocery and thought i deserved a beer and a pizza. But please, no more. The drifts on either side of the driveway are easily 4 feet now. There’s no where else to put it.

I couldn’t imagine 25 inches though. That’s gotta suck.
