My fiancee is sleeping at work today (to make sure he’ll be there tomorrow) so I’m all alone with my computer, tv and books. I decided to stock up on junk food so I can have a nice, lazy, night with munchies.
Price Rite was so much like how Eve described Shop-Rite. I went to Walgreens instead. I got my cereal, milk, tuna, crackers and candy. I didn’t find a good book though. I’m watching IT right now. I also took the time to put a new floor down in my hallway.
I’m a bit confused about this snow though. We’re supposed to get 18". Since when is that a blizzard? We’re friggen New Englanders. This is not a blizzard. It’s a minor inconvience.
Eve , you’re becoming a Knight? How? What kind of Knight?
All precip has stopped here. I don’t think we got an inch of snow, and it didn’t sleet all that long, either. We may get a little more snow tonight. All in all, it wasn’t nearly as bad as they said yesterday.
We got about 4-5 inches here in NoVa, whichis enough to close down everything and make people think it’s the end of the world. The bf and I are enjoying mugs of mulled wine and watching DVDs (just finished Shaun of the Dead and are now on Latter Days.)
The forecast amounts haven’t been reached here. It began around 7AM, and I was going to do a clearing run of the driveway this afternoon, but we only have 6" on the ground, so I’ll wait until the wind is outta here tomorrow.
On a snowstorm scale of 1-10, I give it a 2 for supermarket idiocy and excess hype.
Well, we had wind, cold, and snow here, but I certainly wouldn’t describe it as a blizzard, just a strongish winter storm. We have about 10-15 cm of snow, temperatures of -15C, and intermittent winds around 30 km/h. The winds have drifted the snow and the coverage is extremely uneven, from bare ground to about halfway up the Sorels*. The roads are centrebare to snow-covered, but there is little ice. The wind is sculpting the drifts, bouncing the ice crystals along the surface and carving out patterns in the snow. Even in the streetlights, the snow glitters and is beautiful.
It’s the kind of weather where you take care driving long distances at night, but the city has only slowed down a bit, and there were no mobs in the food stores or anything. This is actually a lot easier to handle than conditions near zero degrees (C), where water may melt and refreeze.
The weather forecast says it will be sunny and -12 tomorrow. Prepare for dazzling beauty.
Good luck folks. I’d gloat, it being nearly 70 degrees here in South Florida, but I think it was excessive gloating that got us those four hurricanes last year.
Here in North Central MA it started about 4PM. Within a half an hour the roads were slick. We’ve probably got close to 6 inches and it’s 7:45pm. It’s snowing moderately and it’s supposed to just keep going through tomorrow afternoon. No big wind here, at least not yet. My kids went to their Dad’s this afternoon so he will have the joy of being snowbound with them for the duration. Hopefully they’ll all survive to talk about it. In the meantime, I have some food, some drink, the computer, the tv if needed, and a book. I had a magazine and it seems to be missing. Again. And this was a really good one. Landscapes, Decks and Patios with a special section on Spring shrubs and an article on making mosaics out of pebbles. The kind of thing that gets me through winter. I think maybe the dog was looking for some ideas for his run. Or he’s holding it hostage for a milk bone. Danged dog.
AHunter3, you might be onto something here. I did just get a digital camera for my birthday that I haven’t found a reason to use yet. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll take it for a spin!
Ah, the joy of snow. After we got dumped with the same crap everyone else got, you’d think it’d be all over. No.
According to the weather maps, the storm had completely passed through, and there was no snow in the entire state – except for here in the “snow belt.” We got an additional pounding for several more hours, thanks to the dreaded “lake effect.”
Those of you in Buffalo know exactly what I mean.
I have no idea how deep it is, and I’m not going out til I run out of cat food or toilet paper.
The day has dawned, sorta, with no additional precip at my place. When I let the dog out to do her morning necessaries, I heard her crunching through the crust on what little snow we did get. Poor Florida doggie - she was not happy.
In theory, we could get another 1-3" today, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Wind is supposed to be gusty and it’ll stay in the 20s all day. We’ll probably go out this afternoon and attempt to clear the driveway.
I seriously doubt this’ll affect going to work tomorrow. Oh well, no snow day for me…
I’m on my way out to start the painful process of shoveling.
I’m not in any kinda shape to do it, so I’ll do a little at a time and it will take most of the day. I’ll start with just the important parts, like the mailbox. That way, when I get lazy, at least the important parts will be done. I hate snow.
We got about a foot here in Philly – good thing you guys didn’t come to the boat show, FairyChatMom. I was all set to get up and Do The Right Thing and shovel my walk – but it’s still effin’ snowing. So I’ll spend some time on the Boards, providing a cozy lap for my cat, until it stops. If it stops.
I’m trying to find out if the boat show was cancelled - if it was, we should be able to get our $30 back. I’m gonna ask anyway - what’s the worst they can do??
The sun is shining hereabouts, and it’s in the mid-teens. I’ve watched the trees sway in a rather brisk breeze. We will eventually get outside with shovels. But for now, I’m enjoying tea and a bagel, and my sweetie is still snoozing. Life is cozy…
