Not sure about the bolded part. IIRC, Ammon cannot use his lawyer to communicate a request for unlawful behavior on the part of others. I think it all got settled over mob/drug guys using their lawyers to order witness intimidation, etc. Since he doesn’t seem to be doing that here, I don’t think it applies, but just thought I’d add it. Any lawyers out there want to weigh in?
But even better is, “Neither the Harney County Court nor the Harney County Sheriff has the authority to remove the FBI from activity on federal lands within Harney County, particularly in light of the continuing occupation of a federal facility.” Without so much as a well-duh!
As a lawyer I would say it amounts to “political speech,” for which First Amendment protection is at the very highest level. It would be different if he were inciting anyone to unlawful acts, but he isn’t, quite.
I dunno, I think everyone pretending to mourn him as a martyr is happy about that.
That’s what they want you to believe, sheeple!
CNN interviewed Victoria Sharp, the 18 year old that was in the vehicle. They show her the video and she denies over and over again that Finicum was reaching across his body. The interviewer even tries to walk her through it like a 5 year old and she still can’t see it.
I saw the youtube version, I couldn’t get the CNN version to load.
The interviewer fails to ask whether or not Finicum’s hands were no longer raised.
The 18 year old has been through a lot, and I would actually be surprised if she ever says anything beyond Finicum had his hands up and they shot him.
Yeah, 18 years old and into this mess.
The end was creepy. “If I lose my life for the future of American, it’s worth it.” That crazy look in her eyes. I imagine that if we saw an interview of an 18 year old female suicide bomber in the middle east, we’d recognize some similarities.
He don’t like gubmint
He knows how blacks is
He grazes cattle
He don’t pay taxes
And Old Man Bundy
He just keeps rollin’ along
Or I’ll hold my breath until I turn blue. It looks like he seriously over estimated the amount of support he would get.
Good point. I overstated that part a bit. Most things can be passed on.
I agree that there are a lot of nuts out in the world. One of the debates on the Mormon related social media, blogs and podcasts is how much of the Bundy craziness is Mormon craziness related, how much is Western Libertarian craziness and how much is their own.
Bundy and his followers talk in code, which some Mormons, and more Mormon apocalyptic followers understand. One phrase is what Bundy promised in his initial Youtube video statement where he promised “a type and a shadow” to Americans who reject him.
This comes directly from the Book of Mormon where a prophet Abinadi was rebuking and evil King Noah and cursed him with this. From Mosiah 13:10
King Noah had Abinadi burned to death, and the king was also later killed by fire.
One of the questions for how much the Mormon church has responsibility for the mess is that in the General Conference following the original Bundy ranch standoff, one of the apostles gave a passionate plea for people to be prepared to fight for liberty.
In one of the most insanely reckless acts by a modern apostle, Robert Hales exhorts people to follow the Holy Ghost (meaning follow the prompting people believe they are receiving individual revelations) to fight for freedom. He quotes from Captain Moroni and the “title of liberty” which had played a pronounced roles in Clyde Bundy’s standoff.
So what is he telling people to do? Host the Title of Liberty, gather together to act, don’t walk, but run.
This is just fucking crazy. Normally these conference talks are babbling glurge with advice indistinguishable from Chicken Soup but for the love of all thing holy, why quote from Bundy’s favorite line in a call for concrete action while pronouncing that the end is near? Absolutely fucking crazy.
Is there any doubt as to why these people thought they are on God’s side?
“I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.” - Susan B. Anthony
The guy from My Mother the Car?
With all this talk about constitutions and Oregon and “land belongs to the people,” maybe this is a good time to point out that Oregon’s original constitution forbid blacks from living there. Just an interesting side note to go along with the fact that Oregon was once owned by the people - the Indian people that whites stole it from.
I dunno . . . so you keep the faith and don’t get Left Behind?
Do Mormons believe in the Rapture?
There is a poor Christian named Ammon
Who gets Jesus all mixed up with Mammon
His cattle he grazes
Wherever he plazes
And them Paiutes can just live with famine!
It wasn’t clear to me that he reached for a gun. But that video is overhead and the guys on the ground certainly had a better view. It’s possible in my (limited) view that he was merely stumbling and regaining his balance.
But if two guys are holding guns on me, not only am I going to raise my hands, I’d kneel on the ground to take away any question of me wanting to lunge at someone or draw a gun.
The USA is a melting pot – in this instance a melting pot of teh crazy.
If it weren’t for the anti-vaxxers, there’d be a vaccine against it. Deus ex [del]machina[/del] black helicopter.
I have wondered about the rapid release of what many would (and clearly do) consider to be less than certain evidence. I now figure that they have unequivocal backup video from a bodycam that won’t be released until after the official investigation.
