Good thing he has no history of anything resembling that!
No disrespect intended to those who deserve to recoup funds lost, but I’d almost rather see the scenario where he holes up and is forcibly removed, with enough risk to the police that he goes to jail for a nice, loooong time for the added felonies.
These yahoos are good at slowing things down by hiding assets, or later grifting funds from their fellow travelers, but going to jail for 5-10 years will shut them down much more effectively. Or at least, it is to be hoped.
Agreed!
I wouldn’t want to see another Ruby Ridge, but I could definitely see this asshat gunning for one.
Didn’t we already try that? Nobody went to jail. I don’t think those laws were ever intended to be used against white people.
It’s already happened twice with this shithead. Here is to hoping the third times the charm!
And yes, color of skin is the deciding factor.
IMHO - the last time they tried that, the prosecutor tried too hard to go for the more serious charges rather than the easier ones, and got the whole thing tossed as a result. Not that you aren’t completely right in that he’s dealing with a largely sympathetic local population, law enforcement and probable judiciary, but if you keep it simple, you have a better shot, pun intended in a gruesome manner.
AIUI, there is some kind of rule binding federal prosecutors to try the most extreme charge.
Well, I am not a lawyer, so I won’t speak to requirements. But that as I recall, the efforts for the serious charges required proof of conspiracy, and that the utter lack of organization in the standoff and general clusterfuck seemed to speak against such.
And then, of course, the prosecutors according to reports and the judge bungled on their requirements to share information with the defense about the other standoff on Bundy’s property.
So I repeat, IANAL, but it appears that the failures to date have often been in the realm of prosecutors tripping themselves up. What we -need- is a Mr. Smith level cool headed prosecutor to assemble a solid case with minimal fanfare, and shooting an unarmed agent enforcing their return to court would give a solid basis for such a thing.
Although I’d totally accept him holing up in at his ranch, surrounded by feds on all sides, who choose to blast the Macarena at him or something equally inane for a week straight until they surrender or decide on other options.
Ammon headed back to court. My favorite part is poor ole’ Ammon can’t find an attorney so his dipshit “People’s RIghts Network” seemed to want to represent him but the judge was having none of that.
Ammon “sold” his house to make sure St. Luke’s couldn’t get it as part of the damages he owes them. Looks like his attempt might fail. I can’t wait to see the eviction event. I’m sure he’ll call on his Pocket Constitution Brigade to bring their AR-15 shaped dick extensions to help protect him.
Ammon has a new arrest warrant. When is this armed standoff going to occur?
Sounds like he is taking a page from Trump. It’s a witch hunt!

Baker Creek Seeds permanently lost me as a customer when I found out they invited Cliven Bundy to a local festival, to be a keynote speaker.
They withdrew the offer when people found out and protested.
I like how they lead off his description as “heirloom vegetable farmer” rather than “patriarch of a domestic terrorism family”.
Well, -if- he’s arrested again (no bets) I guess at least he’s a lot less likely to get bail after he refused to appear. A tiny frisson of joy, despite the fact that everything in thread shows a decided lack of willingness or ability to hold him accountable for his actions.
Anyone seen a missing Ammon?

Oops, I didn’t realize it was a paywalled link. Thanks for the assist.
Here’s a gift link good for 14 days (till 12/18/23) to an extensive Atlantic article about Ammon Bundy, including his recent disappearance, by a (Jewish!) reporter who somehow managed to interview Ammon, his father, Cliven, and others in their circle.
Interesting article. Glad to see his backers failed to bring their guns to his aid and I hope that continues. This is one group that seemingly gets away with armed insurrection and other crimes without true punishment. Hell, Cliven is still illegally grazing his cattle a decade after they tried to stop him. Hopefully Ammon stays hidden, but I fear he will seek the limelight again.
Is Ammon even worth hunting? Maybe if they offered a 2% reward.
Imagine… a show on The Outdoors Channel with bad country music playing, guys in tree stands in Camo ( covered in deer pee ) discovering that Ammon was “In Season” and deciding whether to go after him with bows, shotguns, or deer rifles.
