Harney County judge imposes $70,000 per day fine on Ammon Bundy.
How long before someone tries to set up a crowdfunding site to pay the fines?
These goobers are just going to keep provoking, and trying to escalate the situation. That is what they want.
At a bare minimum, local authorities need to set up a perimeter, and let absolutely nobody and absolutely nothing in or out. All cell phone communication should be jammed. A complete and total blockade. Then cut power to one hour per day. Then cut power entirely. Then cut water.
Blast them with loudspeaker noise.
Establish a safe route out for anyone who wishes to surrender. Then prosecute the hell out of them and send them to jail.
Anything less will simply be encouraging other groups to do the same.
I can’t wait to start logging the National Parks. All I have to do is send in a bunch of heavily armed good old boys to protect my logging crews, and have them wave little copies of the constitution around.
Holy fuck. Threaten to bring in the National Guard, capture them as enemy combatants, and put them in Guantanamo.
Release video of them crying and shitting their pants when two thousand infantry and a light armor battalion retake the government’s land.
They would never pull this shit with a Republican president.
Hip hop, disco, and emo.
I want to preface my reply but first stating that I believe Bundy and his ilk should be arrested and if they resist violently then any bloodshed is on their hands. That said…
It might be embarrassing but images of armoured vehicles and bloody bodies could have a much longer impact. The fallout could impact the support (or rather, the opposition) of Obama’s current actions against guns. I would think that from Obama’s view the best outcome would be for Bundy to get bored and go home and then be quietly* arrested.

- Meaning arrested on the street without any provocation.
Frank Zappa. That would fuck with their heads.

It’s almost triple that amount at $868 million.

I previously suggested they follow the Masada example. That might present the nudge they need in that direction.
I hope the judge himself has good protection, because the Bund has shown no compunction about intimidating people that work for the gummint.
I’m not sure I follow you here. Are you saying that the police / Feds doing their jobs and arresting a bunch of criminals (with force if they resist arrest) would cause some kind of “OBUMA GONNA TAKE OUR GUNS” frenzy? I’m having a hard time understanding the logic that could make the two issues connected.
Then you haven’t been paying attention. I’m not saying that there’s any logic to it, but there are people who would react that way.
Including most of the Republicans running for President. Ted Cruz is already there -

Yes. Images of armoured vehicles and the bloody bodies of second-amendment activists would definitely whip up some groups into a frenzy. Also, the militarization of law enforcement is a touchy subject with some liberals and may erode some of Obama’s support.
Yeah, but it’s not as if those people would be voting for a Democrat anyway. So strategically, pandering to those guys yields very little.
However, I could see this playing out in a different way. If the GOP candidates start pandering to these insurrectionists, the Dems could use this against them. And if gun violence breaks out, then Dems can leverage this for more gun control.
That said, politics are not a valid excuse for withholding basic police work. The reason that we enforce laws is to prevent and control harm. Harm has occurred that could have been prevented if someone had had the balls to at least cordon off the premises. We are now seeing what irresponsibility looks like.
The concern I was responding to wasn’t about politics or who would vote for who. The concern was that it would stir up more idiots with guns to do similar, or worse, things. The Oklahoma city bombing was inspired by the incident at Waco, for example.
Not that law enforcement should let themselves be deterred by such fears, they need to act regardless, but it is a real concern.

Eh, I don’t think its a valid concern. Anyone at this point who is at risk of turning terrorist because LEO decided to finally crack down on this mess is probably already in Oregon, partying it up in the refuge. They have their quiet supporters, sure, but I can’t see a Tim McVeigh rising out of this.
Remember, this isn’t even about guns. It’s about grazing rights and other nonsense.
Whether it’s about guns or grazing rights, it’s all about mindless rage at the federal government. And I don’t think Oklahoma city was about guns. It was about Waco.
Sure but the crazies are gonna be crazy no matter what happens and the nation should not be letting these wingnuts have any influence on national policy one way or another.
On a lighter note, someone sent them a bag of dicks, and they don’t appreciate it ![]()
If you would also like to post them a bag of dicks you can do it from here:
