I’ll shed about as many tears for him as I did for Osama, Saddam, and Moammar.
To be fair I did chuckle a bit.
That bit of guilty pleasure is probably the most valuable thing Finicum ever added to this world.
This thing was always going to end in death. I’m celebrating that to date, the only death is one of the “militants” and no LEOs or bystanders or kids. But it isn’t over - and there will always be more people with the courage of these non-reality based convictions who have access to guns and a firm belief that they are oppressed by their government.
I was really hoping they would find a way to end this without any fanfare or fireworks.
I don’t assume that the shooting was justified. I hope everyone doesn’t Smapti this because the guy was an idiot.
Maybe you missed this post:
And of course there are Smapti’s posts, but I think we all agree those don’t really count.
I don’t know, a terrorist was killed, we generally celebrate that kind of thing in America.
I may not be celebrating it, but I’m less upset about this happening than I am about a kid with a pellet gun getting gunned down.
I’m not “celebrating.” I’m commenting on his judgment and moral worth, and opining that the world is better off without him. One can do that without “celebrating.”
I, for one, stated that this was a bad outcome. I’m not crying any tears for the guy, but I would prefer that he had been taken alive.
Way back when the sheriff and these ass clowns had a face-to-face, my comment was to the effect that the sheriff was giving them an opportunity to walk away, and that the implication was that failure to take that advice was going to mean things were going to get real next time around; and of course, they did. It’s sad that these morons continued to think that it all would end well, with them being carried through town on the shoulders of grateful citizens. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists and now they’re off to prison, where they belong. I’m sure that Finicum was someone who saw himself as a real gunslinger, a guy who talked tough and carried a sidearm, like so many do. Now he’s worm food, and leaves behind the people who need him. Good job, asshole.
The militants are broadcasting a live stream from the refuge on Youtube. Not much to see right now, it just shows a backhoe doing something.
And a bit of good news: Blaine Cooper has reportedly taken up the feds on the offer to leave the compound, leaving Jason Patrick as the sole remaining person from the original “leadership” group.
Are you dismayed when we kill terrorists?
Among his demands: Being cast in Speed 3: Intermittent Wipers.
Just makes you look rather shallow when you make wild-assed, unsubstantiated accusations like this. I seriously doubt the Mormon’s have anything to do with this guy’s life style, but if you have proof please share it.
I am. And the more small beer, the more dismaying.
No, see, Smapti defends the killing of unarmed, non-infamous people, or young teens.
These guys have been posting videos and releasing statements about how they are willing to fight. They made it extremely well known they were armed.
Vinicum in particular was on record saying he’d rather die than go to prison, and was carrying a weapon in every picture I’ve seen.
Unless something extraordinary comes to light, I think the null hypothesis should be that an attempted arrest of him that ended up with him dead was a justified shooting. I would fear for my life if I was one of the guys meant to bring him in.
I grant we shouldn’t just assume and not be interested in whatever evidence comes to light. But I don’t think anybody’s doing that.
Well, Mormons are particularly delusional creeps, as far as major religions go.
The man died the way he wanted to die.
Stupidly.
I celebrate the man being able to go out the way he wanted, even if it’s a massive stain on his “honor”, family and so-called-friends.
Happy, Troutman?
Hope that is the case. Blaine brought his two little kids into the mix. We couldn’t hear his side of the conversation but the phone call last night from the news blogger to Blaine relating that Bundy and team had been arrested sure seemed disturbing.
