I was just reading that article. Unfortunately, it’s McConnell recounting what he says he heard from Payne and Cox, about what happened a mile from his own position.
I certainly find it plausible that Finicum sought confrontation…but this isn’t really evidence of it. I’d rather hear from Payne or Cox directly. Or, indeed, see some dashcam video.
Part of the conspiracy theory will be that he was released in exchange for making that video which (according to the conspiracy theorists) is a bunch of lies. This guy will no longer be welcome in that movement and may even be in danger now.

I can’t believe* folks here are celebrating the death of one of these guys. I’m glad the feds stepped in and took some action, but I’m dismayed someone was killed-- just as I’m dismayed when a black guy is killed by local cops.

There is a limited amount of resources to go around. Every dollar we spent on those yahoos is a dollar we couldn’t spent on a wounded veteran or kid with cancer or some kid with shitty parents that deserves to go to college.
These yahoos sucked up way more than their fair share of lifetime law enforcement dollars.
The could have surrendered any time. Any point they made or could make was weeks and weeks ago.
Everybody dies. Sometimes it is good that they go sooner than later.

Yeah, WTF? Finicum was an asshole and a selfish hypocrite, and I don’t fault the LEOs for shooting if Finicum rushed them. But he didn’t deserve to die. That’s not a happy ending. I want these guys to rot in prison as much as anyone, but celebrating because he was killed? Again, WTF?
