I saw a video of officers talking to and arresting a man in the area recently who smelled of alcohol and had a pistol. He was there to go to the refuge and help kill feds. When they arrested him, he flipped out and swore he would kill (paraphrasing) “every one of you sons of bitches. Except you guys, you’re state troopers, right? You’re cool, but I’ll kill all the rest of you sons of bitches!” Must be some weird respect for state troopers.
Sympathy for the middle child? Not local, not federal, always stuck in middle.

The last of the holdouts, who have received absolutely no response to their offer to leave as long as none of them get charged, have decided to up the ante and demand presidential pardons for everyone involved as a condition of their going home.
Next they’ll be demanding ponies and ice cream.

They’re scared and desperate at this point. They know that they’ve lost regarding their original demands and are now simply trying to bargain for their freedom. Of course their demands for freedom have no more connection to reality than their original demands.
Just tell them they’re taking over a federal prison.

The upper echelon is in jail. The small timers are out with wildlife, a drum of lube, and bags of edible dicks. Who are the dummies now, huh?
If the yee-hawdists want to make American history, and sadly I believe they will (to a very small degree), it will always be a true part of American history that Americans sent, and these guys recieved, bags of dicks in the mail.

The Feds could lie to the holdouts. Accede to some of their demands, then, when the holdout walk out, nab them with, oh, damn, we changed our minds.
The point of sit-ins is that they are a nonviolent method of protest. A sit-in where the protesters were not only armed but also were threatening the police would be something entirely different.
They do seem to want to live off the tax payers dime. Got a great solution for that.
Yeah, the doublethink is strong in these guys.
I don’t think the Black Panthers or the Weather Underground would have demanded pardons.

They haven’t been charged with domestic terrorism and I very much doubt they will be. That should put an end to the “are they terrorists” argument.
