I’ve heard someone say something very, very similar to “aboot” once in my life. It was a woman who was working at a Bank of Montreal branch in Waterloo, Ontario. It just about blew my mind. So SHE’s the one doing it!
For that, they had to make a video? ![]()
There are probably a few people left who haven’t experienced it firsthand. ![]()
Air Canada’s motto: “We’re not happy until you’re not happy.”"
Tell me about it! On a recent flight to Toronto, I was dismayed to find (after lining up for an hour at an info booth in the baggage claim at Pearson) that my luggage was delayed until the next flight came in. The irony was that I was travelling in business class, and my luggage should have been “priority.” It turned out not to be.
Aren’t these tags mostly for show? I’ve been travelling business class for years and it doesn’t seem to prevent them from losing my bags.
Happy Thanksgiving friends.
Have a look at this thanksgiving message, from me, to you.
Went up to Calgary this weekend; found out that the downtown was closed and without power because of an underground fire. WTF, Calgary? I’m thinking we got out just in time!
Oh yeah, happy Thanksgiving, everybody.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving as mine has mostly been…interesting. My Father in Law is in the hospital with a strangulated hernia and an obstructed bowel for which he’s had two surgeries AND my son was in a rollover accident with his buddy as we were preparing to go to Edmonton. He came out unscathed, as did his friend but the car is toast. OTOH, the turkey we had Sunday before all this went down was good, but no leftovers for me and SWMBO. A lot to be thankful for to be sure as no one is in critical condition, but not the easiest Thanksgiving I’ve ever had.
Holey moleys, swampspruce! Glad your son and his buddy are okay! Sheesh, that’s scary.
We got a little bit of leftover turkey for our cat - she gobbled it down (no pun intended), and now I’m thinking of roasting up some more for her (she’s got kidney failure and is a very fussy eater these days - and spoiled rotten to boot!).
Thanks Cat, he is one lucky little dude as this is the second accident he’s been in with his friends in a year. FIL is doing better too so at least I got some sleep finally.
Funny, I fed our cat a bit of the liver and kidney out of the turkey Sunday and she practically Hoovered the works. Pretty sure we may have the same cat as ours is spoiled as well.
I am really dismayed to report that my (ex) mother-in-law’s “boyfriend”* has been diagnosed with lung cancer. They have been together for about 15 years, they can’t live together but they live 5 minutes from each other, travel together extensively live together on weekends, and see each other for meals and outings several times a week. He is a grandfather-type figure to my son, and just a terrific human being. In August, they took an Alaskan cruise, and in September they drove down to San Diego, but cut things short because he wasn’t well, had a cough that he couldn’t shake.
If you smoke, please quit.
*We sound very dysfunctional with ex’s and so forth, but we all get along wonderfully. Last Christmas was me, my son, my new partner, my parents, my mother in law, her boyfriend, her other son (not my ex) his fiance, his daughter from a previous relationship, and her sister. Whew!
Woke up to the news about the soldier in St. Jean dying from injuries sustained in the hit and run. Everything feels a little different today.
The hitter’s Facebook page is interesting in a way that reminds me of many joined-this-month posters:
I looked in the Pit first because I am pretty angry at this bastard. Terrorism or the violent action of a disturbed man? Well they are the pretty much same thing, aren’t they? Another angry misfit. More dead innocents.
Incident on Parliament Hill and the War Memorial - my office is in full lockdown and we are inside the police lines - not allowed to leave the building and we have been told to stay away from the windows.
Our office, for those familiar with Ottawa, is right at Queen and Metcalfe, across the street from the PMO and the PCO is another of the building tenants.
We are on the 16th floor and have a sightline straight to the Hill - many, many, many police cars, K-9 units, paramedics. Oh - and frustrated reporters.
I’m trying to remain calm and get some work done. It’s not easy.
I hope this isn’t a silly question - I haven’t been following the news much lately, and I’m confused over what has happened. Has there been two shootings, or just the one (not that it’s “just” one to his family, of course)? I thought they were talking about two military guys being run over on purpose as a terrorist act, and now on Wednesday a reservist was killed while on guard duty at Parliament Hill. Are the two acts connected? What the heck is going on?
On Monday, the two soldiers were run over. As I recall the perpetrator was shot and killed by the police.
On Wednesday, the soldier was shot and killed at the War Memorial, and then the perpetrator made his way to Parliament, where he was shot and killed (and some guards and staffers were wounded by gunfire). The media may be referring to the incident at the War Memorial and the incident at Parliament as separate shootings, even though (as far as I understand it) they happened back-to-back.
There were also (now discredited reports) of gunfire at the Chateau Laurier and the Rideau Centre. Those are both very close to the War Memorial and Parliament, so my suspicion is that people heard the gunfire from there and misinterpreted where it was coming from.
One of the run-down soldiers died.
Both or the murderers were radical Islamists.
