That’s easy Muffin, if it’s good enough to work in the USA, it will obviously work here?:dubious:
More along the lines of it was done in the US so it should be done here. The next question like “was it done well?” rarely seems to come up.
It’s certainly worked in other fields. The City of Toronto pays less to have garbage collected by private firms than it does to do it with city workers.
Privatization of such things sometimes works, and sometimes does not. In the case of jails and prisons, frankly, not only did it not apparently work here but I have a certain degree of ideological, economic and moral queasiness about outsourcing the imprisonment of human beings.
Oddly, seeing that giagantic prison/hospital complex was one of the highlights of my trip to Midlands/Penetang about a year ago. Oh, that and the family wedding we went to. But my nephew was really bugged out that of “all the things to do around here” you want to see THAT!?
(Psych nurse curiosity.)
Small world! I used to live in Cold Lake (airforce brat). I moved out in '89.
Agreed on both points.
You would be surprised at how much it’s grown since I first got here in '91. For one thing, it’s considered a city now with Grand Centre and Cold Lake amalgamated with the base. The population is nearing 14,000 and the housing starts are insane with new developments going up all over the place.
I remember when it didn’t even have a McDonald’s. Had a lot of good times in that town.
Having a Keith’s, watching the last regular season game of the game. Riders just scored. 7-1.
(And no, we’re not at Taylor Field. When little bits of snow started coming down at 11 am, we made the executive decision we’d be watching the game at home.)
And TSN suddenly goes off the air!?!
Back on. Snow is starting to build up on the field.
Yeah, the snow has been flitting around the air here today. Sniff.
At least I have my snow tires on already.
I have the wood stove going. I’m drinking beer. I’m watching HNIC. I’m watching a Gretzky interview. Does it get any more Canadian?
Went to watch a ski & snowboard pipe competition today at the hill the next block over. It was good to see some friendly faces whom I had not seen since the end of last winter.
I’d vote for either the Grey Cup being played in snowstorms, or Stanley Cup fans rioting just 'cause they can.
It wasn’t snowing or raining at the BC Lions game last night. We took our tenants from Spain to see the gaame, got tickets in the lower bowl 4/60. Kind of a shame. I don’t follow CFL football too much (except to love the Riders and hate the Blue Bombers with a firey passion) but I like going to the games.
But seriously… worst…poutine…ever. Which is a shame, since as my son pointed out " a few years ago this building hosted the world…but we can’t get a “national dish” right.
Woke up to snow here today. Wish I could get the fire going and kick back with TV sports this afternoon, but I have to go out. Oh well, I’ll take it slowly and carefully.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
- John McCrae
Thanks Cyros.
National War Memorial at night on November 11.
And the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
An appropriate sentiment for today. Thank you, Cyros.
